Democrats claim to love free speech, but they sure seem to love censorship when it comes to banning and suppressing Republicans. Then, they seem all for it.
Vermont Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders said the quiet part out loud this week when he suggested that tech billionaires are actually running the country.
In a bizarre Twitter post, the socialist lawmaker was attempting to justify the removal of President Donald Trump from office.
Democrats, Big Tech, and the establishment media have used last week’s Capitol incursion as a pretext to exact revenge against the president and all those who have supported him.
But, according to Sanders, the coordinated ban of Trump and his movement by Big Tech leftists is simply more evidence of why the president must be removed from his office.
“Let’s be clear. If Trump is too dangerous to send out a tweet or a Facebook post, he’s too dangerous to be commander-in-chief. Donald Trump must be removed from office immediately and held accountable for his horrific acts of sedition, violence, and chaos,” Sanders tweeted Sunday.
Silicon Valley has taken massive, unprecedented steps in recent days to silence the world’s most powerful man (Trump) and many others in a disturbing assault on the principles upon which the country was founded.
Shopify took down two online stores affiliated with Trump.
Twitter permanently banned President Trump’s account effective immediately, claiming he was a risk to public safety.
“After a close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence,” Twitter said in a statement.
In explaining his decision to ban President Trump from Twitter he said the ability for companies to shut down users’ accounts “will be destructive to the noble purpose and ideals of the open internet.”
YouTube announced that Trump will be suspended from using his account for at least the next seven days.
“After review, and in light of concerns about the ongoing potential for violence, we removed new content uploaded to Donald J. Trump’s channel for violating our policies. It now has its 1st strike & is temporarily prevented from uploading new content for a *minimum* of 7 days,” YouTube’s press arm tweeted late Tuesday.
YouTube added that it would be “indefinitely disabling comments” on Trump’s account, again citing “ongoing concerns about violence” surrounding his online postings.
Facebook banned Trump from posting on his Facebook accounts for at least the next two weeks until the transition of power to President-elect Joe Biden is complete.
“We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great,” CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a post.
Instagram banned Trump from posting on his Facebook accounts for at least the next two weeks until the transition of power to President-elect Joe Biden is complete.
“We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great,” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a post.
Snapchat disabled Trump’s Snapchat account because it believes the account promotes and spreads hate and incites violence, a spokesperson said.
Google has pulled Parler, a social media app for conservatives and far-right extremists.
Democrats seem to be supporting this massive censorship effort because Trump is a Republican.
One should certainly question whether they would support these actions against a Democrat.
Free speech is not a political issue, and Democrats going all-in on censorship will only backfire on them down the road.
