According to the NY Post, a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell confirmed that they will not convene again in time to impeach President Trump before January 20th. This all but means impeachment is dead in the water before Trump leaves office, yet Democrats are spending precious time focusing on it.
The Senate is not due to reconvene until Jan. 19, which is the day before Inauguration Day. The Senate Impeachment trial in 2020 took almost three full weeks, from mid-January until early February of last year.
To make matters even worse for Democrats, McConnell just came out with a breaking statement saying that he isn’t even sure if he would vote to convict Trump:
If the Senate voted to convict Trump after he left office, this would prevent him from becoming president again in 2025.
