BREAKING: More than 600 doctors warn Trump against extending coronavirus lockdowns

The diagnosis is complete, at least for hundreds of healthcare professionals: It’s time to end the coronavirus lockdowns because they’re harming (and killing) Americans.
More than 600 doctors have signed onto a letter to President Donald Trump urging him to resist others who want to keep the country shut down even longer.
The group wrote that 150,000 Americans each month “who would have had a new cancer detected through routine screening” have not had their disease identified because hospitals where such screenings take place have been largely shutdown in anticipation of waves of COVID-19 patients that have not materialized.
Meanwhile, “millions have missed routine dental care to fix problems strongly linked to heart disease/death, and preventable causes of stroke, heart attack, and child abuse.”
The letter says that there has been a 600-percent increase in calls to suicide hotlines during the shutdown, while liquor and cigarette sales have skyrocketed to between 300 and 600 percent, while “rent has gone unpaid, family relationships have become frayed, and millions of well-child check-ups have been missed.”
“It is impossible to overstate the short, medium, and long-term harm to people’s health with a continued shutdown,” the letter states, according to PJ Media. “Losing a job is one of life’s most stressful events, and the effect on a person’s health is not lessened because it also has happened to 30 million other people.
“Keeping schools and universities closed is incalculably detrimental for children, teenagers, and young adults for decades to come,” the physicians added.
The letter echoes sentiments expressed earlier in the pandemic by other experts including Dr. Dan Erickson and Dr. Artin Massihi of Accelerated Urgent Care in southern California, who had a video press conference where they expressed opposition to continued lockdowns removed from YouTube.
“It is extremely misleading to say that people who want to lift lockdown are people who are greedy and focused on money. The fact is there are lives that are going to be lost on both sides of that policy. And both sets of lives count in the calculus,” added Stanford physician Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, who had conducted COVID-19 antibody testing across the nation.
All of which supports President Trump’s claim weeks ago that “the cure can’t be worse than the disease.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Simone Gold, an emergency medicine specialist based in Los Angeles, told Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom” on Thursday that “there are thousands and thousands of stories of patient harm” due to stay-at-home orders.
“We are frustrated,” Gold, the head organizer of the letter, told the network.
“I could read you heartbreaking story after heartbreaking story sent to me by physicians of patients that have died or suffered severe harm because they were afraid to go to the hospital and their own doctor’s offices were shut,” Gold said.
“I had a lady who had [a] terribly arthritic hip, she was due for a hip replacement, as you know, she couldn’t get it because it was deemed elective,” Gold added. “She ended up waiting on that and becoming very sedentary because of the pain.
“About a month later she developed a blood clot in her lungs," Gold continued. "She’s teetering right now.”
“We just want America to hear the story,” Gold said, explaining why doctors sent the letter. “We feel that there is one narrative out there and that’s OK, but you need to hear the whole picture, the rest of the story. We feel that one opinion is not sufficient and that the second opinion of all these thousands of doctors needs to be heard.”
