BREAKING: Trump Appoints New Press Secretary

President Donald Trump has a new press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany.

McEnany replaces acting White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham, who will return to the East Wing as first lady Melania Trump’s chief of staff, reports said.

Grisham, who replaced Sarah Huckabee Sanders in June, never held a single press conference.

“I am excited to welcome Stephanie back to the team in this new role,” a statement from the first lady read. “She has been a mainstay and true leader in the Administration from even before day one, and I know she will excel as Chief of Staff.”

The New York Post reported:

A longtime Trump associate tells The Post that there had been speculation for weeks that Grisham was on her way out of the press secretary role.

Adding to that speculation, the first lady reportedly still spoke to Grisham on a near-daily basis after she originally left the chief of staff role, according to CNN.

Before moving over to her role as acting press secretary, Grisham served as the first lady’s communications director, the Post reported.

As for who orchestrated the shake-up, that’s where a bit of palace intrigue comes into play; the Post noted that former U.S. Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), the president’s new chief of staff, was behind the move.

The Post cited a longtime presidential associate who said Meadows is looking to revamp the White House press office so that it will play a “much bigger role with the media.”

“It’s a 40-person team,” the source said of the press office. “That’s a lot of people. You think [Trump] could get at least some good press.”

Meadows also allegedly had some conflicts with Grisham, leading him to seek to replace her, according to the Post.

Grisham also reportedly had some issues with White House Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley, who was said to be “dying” for the job.

The Post added:

Also joining the press staff is Alyssa Farah, who was also seen as a possible press secretary. Farah is a former spokeswoman for Vice President Mike Pence and now works at the Pentagon. She forged a close relationship with Meadows when she was communications director of the House Freedom Caucus, which he formerly led.

McEnany has been a staunch loyalist of the president and has been featured regularly on various cable news programs. She is well spoken and will be a welcome addition to the president’s team.
