CDC Director Says Schools Among 'Safest Places for Children' During Pandemic

Smart, insightful people asked a very poignant question way back in March as COVID-19 began to spread across the country and ‘leaders’ closed schools, businesses, and venues to ‘flatten the curve’ – What is the end-game?

In other words, at what point do we return to normal? Do we have to have reduced infections? No infections anywhere in the country?

Because it has become readily apparent, months later, that there is little appetite in some political circles for lifting coronavirus restrictions like keeping schools closed, despite the fact that “the science” has long proven there is no reason to do that.

In fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention chief Dr. Robert Redfield is recommending that schools reopen and stay that way because they are not dangers to kids.

“Today, there’s extensive data that we have—we have gathered over the last two to three months—to confirm that K-through- 12 schools can operate with face-to-face learning and they can do it safely and they can do it responsibly,” Redfield, a leading member of the Trump administration’s pandemic task force, told a White House press conference. “The infections we’ve identified in schools, when they have been evaluated, were not acquired in schools. They were actually acquired in the community and the household.

“The truth is, for kids K-12, one of the safest places they can be, from our perspective, is to remain in school, and it’s really important that following the data, making sure we don’t make emotional decisions about what to close and what not to close,” Redfield continued. “I’m here to say clearly the data strongly supports that K-12 schools—as well as institutes of higher learning—really are not where we’re having our challenges.”

The Epoch Times adds:

Redfield was joined by Elinore F. McCance-Katz, the assistant secretary for Mental Health and Substance Abuse. McCance-Katz said keeping schools open is crucial for the social and emotional well-being of American children.

“We must find a way to alleviate that stress without ignoring the fact that our nation faces the very real and deadly virus,” said McCance-Katz. “The work of schools and the school personnel do daily is valuable beyond any words I can deliver. In addition to education, schools provide their children a profound sense of security and stability for the structure and safety of schools are an integral role of health.”

Regardless of ‘the science’ proving that kids are least at risk for the virus – and that they are not “super spreaders” so they won’t infect teachers, either – leftist authoritarian Democrats, mostly, continue to shutter schools, bending to the whims of a large party donor, the teacher’s unions.

The problem is, parents (and other earners) are still paying taxes to support schools that aren’t open and aren’t fulfilling their role of primary education provider. At some point, in many communities and cities around the country, the calls to reopen schools will only be outmatched by the demands for tax refunds by angry workers who will increasingly object to having tax dollars deducted from their checks to pay for schools that refuse to open.

So again, we ask: Just what is the end game for COVID-19? Or is there one?
