Chicago’s Democrat mayor may have rushed to clamp down on ordinary Americans who just want to be left alone to celebrate Thanksgiving, but their oppressive lockdown orders aren’t doing anything to stop violent crime.
Windy City Mayor Lori Lightfoot was partying in the streets after the media declared Joe Biden the “winner” of the election and after the confetti was swept up, she ordered up another round of punishing restrictions just in time for turkey day.
Lightfoot’s orders restricted travel, banned people from having guests in their own homes, and called for planned Thanksgiving Day dinners to be canceled.
To put teeth into her Soviet-style decree, Mayor Lightfoot also made it clear that she had conscripted a small army of contact tracers (translation: political goons) to ensure that there was compliance.
While Lightfoot’s edict may have had the desired effect on battered and demoralized citizens, it hasn’t done a thing to stop the violence that has made large swaths of Chicago far more dangerous than third-world hellholes ruled by local warlords.
And this weekend is no exception with nearly 40 shootings since Friday and still nearly an entire day left to go.
Four of the victims ended up in the morgue.
Via Chicago ABC affiliate ABC-7 Eyewitness News, “39 shot, 4 fatally in Chicago so far this weekend”:
Four people have been killed, and 35 others wounded in shootings across Chicago so far this weekend.
Six people were shot in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side early Saturday morning, according to law enforcement officials.
In the latest fatal attack, a man was killed in a shooting near South Chicago on the South Side.
The 30-year-old was in a vehicle about 10:15 p.m. Saturday in the 7900 block of South Brandon Avenue when someone opened fire, striking him in the chest, back and arms, Chicago police said. He was taken by friends to Jackson Park Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as Christan Adams, of Hammond, Indiana.
Hours earlier, a man was killed and another wounded in West Pullman on the Far South Side.
They were in a vehicle about 7 p.m. in the 12200 block of South Eggleston Avenue when someone walked up and unleashed gunfire, police said.
Devon B. Wash, 32, suffered a gunshot wound to the upper body and was taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police and the medical examiner’s office.
The other man, 34, was taken to the same hospital with gunshot wounds to his arm, neck and hand.
On Friday, a 35-year-old woman was fatally shot in South Chicago.
She was in a vehicle about 8:30 p.m. in the 8300 block of South Yates Boulevard when someone fired shots, striking her in the head, police said. She was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Mayor Lightfoot’s badly misplaced priorities and sympathies for Black Lives Matter radicals who want to dismantle and defund the police – especially during a budget crisis – have made an already horrific situation even worse.
Chicago is on track to shatter the record for murders.
According to the Sun-Times, “Chicago nears 700 homicides in 2020, a milestone reached just one other time since 1998”:
Chicago is on pace to pass 700 homicides this year as the city faces a 50% increase in gun violence from a year ago.
Since 1998, it’s a milestone reached only one other time, in 2016.
So far, Chicago has more murders this year than during the same period in 2016 — Chicago’s most violent year in recent memory.
As of Thursday evening, 694 deaths in Chicago have been ruled homicides, according to a Sun-Times analysis of Cook County medical examiner’s office data. The city had 680 murders by this time in 2016, according to Chicago Police Department statistics.
In April, CPD Supt. David Brown challenged his department to keep the annual murder total under 300 — a number the city hasn’t been under in 60 years. He likened the challenge to President John F. Kennedy’s goal to put a man on the moon.
Despite Lightfoot’s dismal management of one of the nation’s largest cities it would be somewhat unfair to put all of the blame on her, after all, Chicago has been controlled by the corrupt Democrat machine since the days of Al Capone.
Residents would be well-advised to get out while they still can.
