Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz went after Joe Biden and Kamala Harris this week for their failure to do much of anything to address the border crisis their policies created.
During a fiery speech on the Senate floor, the Texas Republican said ever since Biden became president, “we’ve seen crisis after crisis.”
“On Sunday, June 20th, Joe Biden will have been president for exactly five months. And in these five months we’ve seen crisis after crisis after crisis. We’d experienced a gas crisis where we had gas lines and skyrocketing energy prices,” Cruz declared.
“We’re on the verge of an inflation crisis, where everywhere we look prices are rising on food, on housing, on lumber. We’ve already had a war in the Middle East, and we’ve got a border crisis that has been raging so intensely that we’re on pace to see two million illegal immigrants come through our unsecured border this year,” he continued.
Cruz added: “Just last month, 180,034 illegal immigrants crossed the border. To put that in perspective, that number is a 674 percent increase over the number of illegal immigrants that crossed the border last May.”
“A 674 percent increase. And that number is a 21-year high. The reason for this is simple. The crisis that has unfolded is the direct result of political decisions made by Joe Biden and Kamala Harris,” he said.
Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel issued similar comments on Wednesday.
During an interview on Fox News, McDaniel was asked about the Biden administration’s response to the crisis.
She said Harris has sent a clear message to the American people: she doesn’t care.
“Look, the border is in crisis and I think every American looks at what’s happening with 200 percent increase in people coming through, 14,000 children unaccompanied last month, Harris,” McDaniel said.
“I can’t even imagine the atrocities they are facing along with the sweltering heat and coming unaccompanied and 800 percent increase the fentanyl coming across the Texas border. We know we have an overdose problem in this country and our border is porous,” she said.
“Kamala Harris is sending a clear message. She doesn’t care. She doesn’t want to hear it. She doesn’t care. She’s not calling Governor Abbott. She knows she is in charge and this is an issue she just decided to turn a blind eye to and people are suffering as a result,” she said.
“Well, she went in 2018 when she wanted to get a photo op and President Trump was in charge. President Trump solved the border crisis. She is now in charge of it,” McDaniel said.
McDaniel added: “It is a catastrophe, and she owns it. And I talked to Governor Abbott, I did a podcast, on GOP.com, Governor Abbot said to me she hasn’t called him, neither has President Biden. They talk about bipartisanship. Wouldn’t you call the governor of a border state to say how can we help and how can we hear about these issues?”
