“DARK TRIAD OF POLITICAL SCANDAL”: Trey Gowdy Blisters Cuomo’s Nursing Home Coverup

Fox News contributor Trey Gowdy blasted New York’s Democratic governor, Andrew Cuomo, over the apparent cover-up of his botched policy of requiring nursing homes to accept patients who were infected with COVID-19, a mandate that likely led to thousands of unnecessary deaths, say experts.

Gowdy made his comments during a panel discussion of the burgeoning scandal during a Friday appearance of “Special Report with Brett Baier.”

The host launched the segment by mentioning there are bipartisan calls in New York state for investigations into Cuomo and his administration following two damning developments:

— In late January, Democratic state Attorney General Letitia James’ office released a report in which investigators said the state’s COVID-19 nursing home death toll is at least 50 percent higher than the official numbers from Cuomo’s administration;

— Last week, top Cuomo aide Melissa DeRosa admitted on a phone call with New York state Democrats that the governor’s office hid the number of coronavirus nursing home deaths out of fear the then-Trump administration would launch a federal investigation and possibly charge people with crimes.

Baier also noted that Democratic Assemblyman Ron Kim claimed that Cuomo pressured him to lie about cases before swinging it over to Gowdy.

“Bret, it’s the dark triad of political scandal as you have a lethal public policy, you have these psychotic calls to people that dare to criticize you, you admit that you manufactured evidence for your own personal political gain,” Gowdy said. “You have bipartisan outrage.

“You got the worst defense anyone’s ever heard, which was ‘I was not aggressive enough in defending my lies,’” Gowdy continued, adding that so-called bipartisanship media coverage of the scandal was missing. “The same media that lavished praise on him and wanted him to run for president, wanted him to be the AG. Where are they? Who’s covering it?”

To that point, Fox News reported last week that networks that focused on Cuomo’s pandemic news conferences and lockdown policies including MSNBC and CNN feted him frequently but have since ignored the scandal. That includes, of course, any negative coverage by CNN host and younger brother Chris Cuomo.

“Liberal networks CNN and MSNBC continued to protect embattled New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday night, completely ignoring the latest news on the Democratic governor’s growing nursing home scandal during primetime,” Fox News reported.

What’s most telling, perhaps, is the outrage among Democrats in New York at Cuomo’s cover-up.

“I reiterate my call [email protected] and his administration to be subpoenaed for all pertinent information. We need answers and grieving families deserve justice. Enough with the spin,” state Sen. Jessica Ramos tweeted following the news regarding DeRosa’s comments.

“At no point did the Administration notify the legislature about a DOJ investigation. People died and Cuomo lied then he had the gall to write a book,” she added, pushing back against Cuomo’s claim at a presser last week that his office informed the state Assembly of a Justice Department probe into the deaths.

“To NY’ers watching Cuomo’s press conference — it is riddled with lies, theatre, & deflection,” added state Sen. Alessandra Biagi, also a Democrat.
