It’s almost comical to watch liberals online deny claims made by conservatives that Democrats are coming for the Second Amendment and America’s tens of millions of gun owners.
It would be laughable if it weren’t true, as Democrats continually prove every single time they have power.
The latest to put the lie to leftists who say Dems support unfettered Second Amendment rights is long-serving Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee of Texas, no less.
She is introducing legislation that would create a national gun registry (that will later be used to confiscate guns — otherwise, what business does the federal government have knowing how many guns Americans own and of what type?), and force every gun owner to undergo a psychological evaluation (which will be used to then deny gun rights on trumped-up charges of political ‘wrongthink’ — we’re already seeing that).
Her bill, H.R. 127, was put forward last month and was alluded to Thursday by White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki during an afternoon briefing.
The text of H.R. 127 calls for the registration of all privately-owned firearms and the creation of a database where registration information can be stored. The bill also calls for the registration of ammunition.
Oh, and she wants American gun owners to be licensed, too.
“The Attorney General, through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, shall establish a system for licensing the possession of firearms or ammunition in the United States, and for the registration with the Bureau of each firearm present in the United States,” says her legislation.
That’s not all. The legislation makes it mandatory that an entire class of firearms — so-called “assault weapons” like AK-47 and AR-15 style platforms — must be licensed separately.
And all gun licenses will, of course, come with ‘fees’…for each weapon.
Jackson-Lee, who is black, claims to care about ‘her people,’ but her legislation would make it increasingly difficult for many persons of color — and impossible for others — to own and maintain guns for self-defense.
But also, let’s be crystal clear here: Each and every one of these measures are not designed to ‘increase public safety’ or any such lofty goal. No. Each measure is designed to remove from private hands as many firearms as possible.
Think what happened Jan. 6 at the U.S. Capitol Building was just a riot and not an “insurrection?” Boom! You’re unstable and a risk to domestic security and you shall be denied your rights under the Second Amendment.
Post something ‘suspicious’ online (defined by the Marxist governing elites, of course)? Boom! You’re psychologically unstable and thus are not free to ‘keep and bear arms.’
And so forth.
The fees alone will be enough to prevent millions of Americans from either owning as many guns as they have now or owning any at all.
And as far as a national registry goes, there are substantial questions about whether that’s even constitutional, as being forced to comply with one could constitute an “infringement” on the right to own guns.
It’s not clear this legislation is going anywhere, however. While the more radical elements of the Democratic Party are chomping at the bit to deny as many Americans as possible their Second Amendment rights, if it would pass it’s going to be challenged in courts almost immediately — where gun rights advocates have a far better than even chance of winning, thanks to four years of Trump judicial appointments.
