Dismal Thursday Night Football Ratings Another Blow To “Woke” NFL

The third week of the 2020 NFL season kicked off on Thursday night and the television ratings are as ugly as it gets for “woke” commissioner Roger Goodell. 

The game between the two Florida teams, the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars drew a dismal 5.43 million viewers as fans continue to tune out after the league decided to embrace the toxic message of the Marxist-influenced Black Lives Matter movement.

While the matchup wasn’t a very attractive one between two of the league’s perennial bottom feeders, the season opener two weeks ago between young black superstar QBs Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson was a ratings disaster. 

Sunday’s night’s marquee matchup between two more star black quarterbacks in Seattle’s Russell Wilson who is playing at MVP level and New England’s Cam Newton also bombed badly.

The one exception was Monday’s game between the New Orleans Saints and the Las Vegas Raiders which performed well but was likely an anomaly due to a simulcast on ABC and ESPN.

A lackluster Thursday Night Football matchup led to the smallest audience for the midweek game in four years. ABC’s Celebrity Family Feud and TNT’s NBA playoff game were close on the NFL Network’s heels.

The Miami Dolphins’ 31-13 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars averaged 5.43 million viewers on the NFL Network. That’s the lowest tally for a Thursday game since an October 2016 contest (also involving the Jaguars) drew 5.1 million viewers.

While the NFL game still topped the primetime in both total viewers and adults 18-49, it was a close call. Celebrity Family Feud began its fall run on ABC with 5.26 million viewers, on par with its summer average (as was its 0.7 rating among adults 18-49). TNT’s telecast of the NBA Western Conference finals scored a 1.87 in the 18-49 demographic, just a few hundredths of a point behind Thursday Night Football’s 1.9.

Thursday night’s contest was the worst-rated contest in the time slot in four years and the continuing trend of hemorrhaging viewership appears to be an early referendum on Goodell’s brilliant idea that suggesting that the NFL’s own fans may be racists was going to gain acceptance. 

The rejection of Black Lives Matter’s merger with professional sports isn’t limited to the NFL either as the NBA playoff game featuring BLM cult leader LeBron James got dunked on by Fox’s Tucker Carlson on Thursday night.

Despite 24-hour hype, the LeBron James-led Lakers-Nuggets Conference Finals Game was TKO’ed by Tucker Carlson. The crucial, series-changing Game 4 drew 4.6 million, while a random Thursday episode of Tucker Carlson Tonight brought in 4.74 million.

Remember: this is the Western Conference Finals, with the NBA’s premier team, and its biggest individual draw in LeBron.

At this point, Mark Cuban must dig deep for a disingenuous spin-job. Perhaps, he’ll see losing to only Carlson a positive trend? Wednesday, both Carlson and Sean Hannity — with his 5.2 million viewers — took it to the NBA playoffs’ 4.5 million. Moving in the right direction, Cuban may say.

Since trying to one-up Joy Reid in political misinformation, the NBA ratings have redefined tanking. Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals recorded the lowest Conference Finals viewership in 17 years. The first round of the NBA playoffs fell 27% year-over-year and 40% from two seasons ago, the last time LeBron participated in the playoffs.

Luckily for the NBA, sports media is refusing to cover the collapse in viewership. At ESPN, the ratings beat is merely reserved for when the NFL is down and the NBA is not in the tank.

For Goodell, Adam Silver, and the privileged players who bend the knee for slain criminals and put the names of accused sex offenders on their helmets, the falling ratings show just how out of touch that they are with mainstream America which pays their salaries. 

A day of reckoning is coming when corporate sponsors have to make their choice between money and BLM because the violent, racist militants and their enablers at NFL headquarters are going to lose.
