Eating Their Own: AOC Plays Race Card, Attacks Cuomo For Not Suspending Rent Payments

Two prominent New York liberal politicians are going after one another while the state is being rocked by coronavirus cases.
On Wednesday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called out NY Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo for not suspending rent payments, only mortgage payments, during the crisis.
She claimed that it’s “a class and race issue.”
“If you called for a suspension or moratorium on mortgage payments, then we should also call for that same treatment on rent payments,” Ocasio-Cortez told WNYC’s The Brian Lehrer Show. “We’re kind of creating a class and race issue. We’re essentially rewarding and offering preferential treatment to landowners and folks who are more wealthy, and we’re not offering that same kind of relief to renters.”
Last month, Cuomo said the move to suspend mortgages and foreclosures was “bold but necessary,” adding that it would be a “real-life economic benefit and be a stress reliever for many families.”
“We’re not exempting people from the mortgage payments. We’re just adjusting the mortgage to include those payments on the back end,” Cuomo said.
However, Ocasio-Cortez pulled out the race card and said that both “racial and class inequities baked into the crisis.”
“If you are able to stay home, you are a privileged person in this moment,” she said, adding that those required to continue working outside of their homes “are overwhelmingly lower-income. They’re black. They’re brown … and they still have to pay rent tomorrow.”
Many in the lefty media have been purposely panicking the American people with "updates" on the coronavirus in an effort to make President Donald Trump look bad.
But in a rare sign of unity, several Democratic governors have come forward in the past week and praised the president and his team for their efforts to combat the spread of the coronavirus.
