George Will Says January 6th Needs To Be Burned Into American Minds Like 9/11

This week on ABC, Washington Post contributor George Will said that the Capitol “riot” deserves to be burned in the American mind as firmly as 9/11 because it was “that scale of a shock to the system.”

What George Will might be doing here instead is showing his obvious dismissal of the suffering 9/11 caused in the minds of many Americans. He seems to have moved on from the impact 9/11 had, and is now using it only as a landmark date.

“GEORGE WILL: Well, it’s controversial for one reason. We have something new in American history. We have a political party defined by the terror it feels for its own voters. That’s the Republican Party right now.

Every elected official is frightened of his voters, therefore doesn’t respect his voters and doesn’t like his voters and is afraid that a vote for this would be seen as an insult to the 45th president.

There’s no reason — I mean, McConnell has a point. There are going to be lots of investigations. Journalists are going to go through this. There are 450-some criminal charges being brought with 100 more to come, and there’s going to be lots of information about this.

I would like to see January 6th burned into the American mind as firmly as 9/11 because it was that scale of a shock to the system. I think there will be a commission, but it is controversial for that reason.”

Will is equating a terror attack that shook the world and took the lives of almost 3000 people to an event that was simply uncomfortable for politicians. On January 6th, one Trump supporter was killed by the police, but aside from that the only damage was a few broken windows. In fact, the vast majority of protesters were allowed to walk right into the building.

The 9/11 attacks not only left an impact on the world, but it left a huge mark on the psyche of New Yorkers who witnessed as two planes crashed into iconic New York buildings.

It was an event that started a foreign war, which still impacts young Americans today who join the military ranks.

Yes, but Will, a supposed “conservative,” compares it to what many foreign leaders have jokingly called a “stroll” through the Capitol. It is obvious he needs reminding of how horrifying 9/11 was.
