With the most important election in American history less than a week away, President Trump landed a major endorsement on Wednesday.
Legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus announced is support for Trump’s reelection on Twitter, urging people to get out and vote in order to avoid a “socialist America” where the government will run their lives.
The Golden Bear who has been around for long enough to have known many presidents hailed Trump for his patriotism and love for America and its citizens and putting the country first.
The 80-year-old living legend put together the most impressive run of golfing in history over a career that spanned a quarter of a century.
His 18 major championships are a record and 3 more than another legend, Tiger Woods has won over his career.
Legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus posted a statement to Twitter on Wednesday night urging people to vote and detailing why he cast his ballot for President Donald Trump.
In Nicklaus’ view, Trump has “delivered on his promises” and “worked for the average person,” while being “more diverse than any President I have seen and has tried to help people from all walks of life – equally.”
Nicklaus also believes that “Trump’s policies will bring the American Dream to many families across the nation.”
Nicklaus, 80, won 73 times on the PGA Tour and is golf’s all-time leader in major wins with 18. Nicknamed “The Golden Bear,” Nicklaus also founded the Memorial Tournament in his home state of Ohio and has been involved in the design of a lengthy list of golf courses. Over the summer, Nicklaus revealed that he and his wife had tested positive for COVID-19 back in the early days of the pandemic in March.
In his Wednesday statement of support for Trump, he wrote: “You might not like the way our President says or tweets some things – and trust me, I have told him that! – but I have learned to look past that and focus on what he’s tried to accomplish.
According to Nicklaus who also voted for Trump in 2016:
“This is not a personality contest; it’s about patriotism, policies and the people they impact. His love for America and its citizens, and putting his country first, has come through loud and clear. How he has said it has not been important to me. What has been important are his actions.”
Nicklaus praised Trump’s game during a 2019 Bloomberg interview where he discussed his golfing with U.S. presidents.
“I’ve played with a few,” Nicklaus responds, when Rubenstein leads with a question about the number of presidents Nicklaus has played with.
“And which one’s the best?” Rubenstein asks.
“Well, the ones I’ve played with, actually Trump is probably the best player,” Nicklaus says. “Trump plays pretty well. He plays a little bit like I do. He doesn’t really ever finish many holes. But he can hit the ball, and he goes out and plays and just enjoys it. But he’s won several club championships. He can play.”
The 18 championships won by Nicklaus include four U.S. Opens and putting on six green jackets at the Masters.
