Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) appears to have shifted gears and is now suggesting to reopen the economy.
The embattled Democratic governor who gained a reputation for his decisions with New York nursing homes had posted a very brief message on Twitter stating the following, “We simply cannot stay closed until the vaccine hits critical mass. The cost is too high. We will have nothing left to open. We must reopen the economy, but we must do it smartly and safely.”
Cuomo’s message was met with criticism almost instant, particularly from people who might have demanded the economy to be reopened many months ago, if not longer. Some Twitter users also commented, wondering if President Trump had taken over Cuomo’s account, due to Trump previously suggesting a smart and safe reopening of the economy.
The New York Governor has been criticized over the course of a year for his response to the ongoing situation with the pandemic and how he’s managed the city, restrictions, and everything related to it.
The staunch criticism to his new desire to reopen the economy should come as no surprise, but it certainly came swiftly immediate after he posted the message.
