Sen. Lindsey Graham is one of a growing number of Republicans and Democrats who believe it’s a mistake for the House to impeach President Donald Trump for the second time over the false claim that he instigated the storming of the Capitol Building on Wednesday.
But more than that, the Senate Judiciary Committee chairman from South Carolina had some advice as well for President-elect Joe Biden: Do something to try and prevent it.
“Pick up the phone, call Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and the squad and tell them ‘stand down’ [on impeachment],” Graham said during an interview on Fox News’ “Hannity.”
“This will destroy the country even further,” Graham said in reference to another impeachment procedure. “You have the power to do that, the question is, do you have the courage to do it?” he asked of Biden.
He went on to say that a video statement President Trump released Thursday was “helpful” and that “it hit the mark.” He also said that Trump “wants to move on to a peaceful transfer of power. He wants this to end.”
After spending most of the day with Trump on Friday, Graham said that the president will “focus on his agenda, his successes for the American people” on his way out of the White House.
“Joe Biden said it’s up to Congress regarding impeachment. No, President-elect Biden, it’s up to you,” Graham said.
“I’m asking no more of you, President-Elect Biden than I ask myself, pick up the phone and tell Pelosi, Schumer, and the squad to stand down, no more impeachments,” he repeated.
That doesn’t look like it’ll happen; frenzied House Democrats who fabricated the first impeachment against Trump shortly after they took control of the chamber in January 2019 are fabricating the claim that he incited goofballs and idiots to invade the Capitol Building when Trump clearly said no such thing.
But no matter. The die is cast; the wheels are in motion, and political shark tyrants in the Donkey Party smell blood again and they’re going in for the kill.
The message is, of course, really being sent to the president’s legions of supporters: ‘Don’t ever send someone like him again to the White House or we’ll destroy that person, too.’
