President Joe Biden lashed out at the Georgia election integrity measures signed into law by the state’s governor Brian Kemp on Thursday.
“Do you have a comment on the new Georgia election law, Mr. President?” a reporter asked.
“Say again?” Biden asked. “The new Georgia election law?” the reporter asked again.
“It’s an atrocity,” Biden responded. “The idea — if you want any indication that it has nothing to do with fairness, nothing to do with decency, they passed a law saying you can’t provide water for people standing in line while they’re waiting to vote. You don’t need anything else to know that this is nothing but punitive design to keep people from voting. You can’t provide water for people about to vote. Give me a break.”

“And what are you going to do about it, Mr. President?” the reporter baited him, but Biden had already turned his back to walk away.
“This is Jim Crow in the 21st Century. It must end,” Biden added in a statement.
On Thursday, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed an election integrity law that would “cut the time period voters have to request absentee ballots; impose new identification requirements; make it easier for state officials to take over local elections boards; limit the use of ballot drop boxes; allow challenges to voting eligibility; and [r]eplace the elected secretary of state as the chair of the state election board,” Axios reported. It would also stop people from approaching others in a voting line, even to ‘offer water.’
One Georgia Dem. Rep., Park Cannon, was so distraught she attempted to go into the governor’s signing ceremony, but was arrested by state police. Senator Ralph Warnock, who is up for re-election in 2022, also blasted the Georgia law.
“Well, there are major problems with what was passed last night,” Senator Warnock said on Friday. “And as bad as it is, what they were trying to pass was even worse. S.B. 202 will allow for a hostile takeover of local boards of elections if the Georgia legislature filled with politicians doesn’t like the outcome of an election. It’s anti-democratic. It’s un-American.”
“They are trying to make it harder for people to vote rather than making it easier for people to vote,” Senator Warnock claimed. “We saw how important vote by mail is. When you think about working families, they need opportunities to be able to exercise their franchise. And it became particularly important in the middle of this pandemic, which we are not out of yet. Besides, the people of Georgia have been voting like this for years. Now all of a sudden it’s a problem? I think they don’t like the outcome, so rather than change their message, they’re trying to change the rules.”
The 2020 elections saw the highest turnout in modern U.S. election history. It was also one of the most controversial in American history. Judging by the Democratic Party’s reaction, the party sees it as politically advantageous to have as many people vote as possible with no realistic way of checking voters’ state residency or identities. Thus, even checking to see if a voter is 18 years old, an American citizen, and a state residency is being blasted by Democrats as an unfair “restriction” on U.S. elections.
