While progressives going into a collective meltdown over the Supreme Court’s decision that there is no guaranteed right to abortion in the U.S. Constitution, and therefore states have the right to determine the reasonable limits on abortion access, President Joe Biden just drove a stake into one of the radical left’s most predictable ‘solutions’: Court-packing.
While aboard Air Force One on the way to Munich, Germany for the G-7 summit, White House Press Secretary Jean-Pierre all but put a nail in the hard left’s court-packing scheme.
“So, I know I’ve … I was asked this question yesterday, and I’ve been asked it before — and I think the president himself … about expanding the Court,” Jean-Pierre said. “That is something that the president does not agree with. That is not something that he wants to do.”
Ouch. Nonetheless, Jean-Pierre claimed that there is a right to abortion that can be found in the Constitution that the nation’s highest court seems unable to find.
“It’s so out of step not only with this decision, but it’s also so out of step with the Constitution,” she added.
Meanwhile, Speaker Pelosi issued an angry statement on the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision that hints at her desire to pack the Supreme Court with radical justices that would rubber-stamp that Democratic Party’s political agenda.
“It is still appalling to me that the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court would agree that a Constitutional right does not exist if it was not spelled out explicitly and in public when the 14th Amendment was ratified over 150 years ago,” she added. “While this extremist Supreme Court works to punish and control the American people, Democrats must continue our fight to expand freedom in America. Doing so is foundational to our oath of office and our fidelity to the Constitution.”
“It is clear from how Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell stacked the Supreme Court that elections have ramifications,” she added. “It is essential that we protect and expand our pro-choice Majorities in the House and Senate in November so that we can eliminate the filibuster so that we can restore women’s fundamental rights – and freedom for every American.”
Yet it appears from recent polling that state abortion laws do not rate as one of Americans’ highest concerns, despite the leaked majority opinion on Roe v. Wade has been out for weeks.
As a recent CBS poll showed, Inflation was the top-rated concern (82%), Economy was the second-highest concern (80%), Crime was the third-rated concern (58%), and Abortion did not weigh in until sixth on the list (42%). A left-leaning YouGov/Economist poll also showed Republican enthusiasm among RVs is leading Democrats by +14 in a blowout.
Thus, short of an act of God, or a slew of stolen elections, the Democrats are going to be facing a lot of defeats from this conservative Supreme Court for years to come.
