Never has Big Tech tyranny been more blatant than over the last four days, 96 hours that shook America and is the first shot of the incoming Biden-Harris regime’s war on freedom.
Following events in Washington D.C. when a pro-Trump protest culminated in a very brief occupation of the U.S. Capitol by supporters and Antifa provocateurs, the media, Democrats, and Silicon Valley exploited the day to usher in a chilling new era of mass censorship and political reprisals.
The coordinated de-platforming of President Trump by all major tech companies has shown that the First Amendment no longer exists and the long-expected purge extended to conservatives as well.
Big Tech’s flexing of their collective totalitarian muscles was enabled when Republicans failed to strip the monopolies of their special protections under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.
According to the Electonic Frontier Foundation:
Section 230 says that “No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider” (47 U.S.C. § 230). In other words, online intermediaries that host or republish speech are protected against a range of laws that might otherwise be used to hold them legally responsible for what others say and do.
However, the abuse of power by Twitter, Facebook, Google, Apple, and Amazon may have some Republicans regretting their missed opportunity because with Democrats in total control of the government, they could be next on the list for banning.
One of them is South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham who on Friday, vowed to hold the tech oligarchs accountable for banning the sitting president of the United States while allowing the Iranian ayatollah to keep tweeting.
It is appalling that Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey would provide a platform for the leader of the planet’s top sponsor of terrorism while censoring Trump.
According to Graham:
“I’m more determined than ever to strip Section 230 protections from Big Tech (Twitter) that let them be immune from lawsuits.”
“Big Tech are the only companies in America that virtually have absolute immunity from being sued for their actions, and it’s only because Congress gave them that protection.”
“It is now time for Congress to repeal Section 230 and put Big Tech on the same legal footing as every other company in America. Legal accountability.”
However, Graham’s promises should be taken with a grain of salt considering that after he assumed the position as chairman of the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee and also voted to issue a blizzard of subpoenas to Obama officials involved in the Russiagate hoax and the framing of President Trump.
Despite Graham’s tough talk, there that blizzard never arrived and the coup conspirators were allowed to run out the clock on Trump’s presidency.
It may well be that Republicans who just lost the Senate majority may soon understand that Big Tech which works hand in hand with the Democratic party and that unless they are reigned in, they will ensure that America continues to devolve into an authoritarian one-party state.
The time to have acted has likely already passed, especially if Democrats pack the Supreme Court and award statehood to Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico as many are expecting.
All talk and no action, that’s what we’ve come to expect from Lindsey Graham and at this point, it would be naive to expect a sudden change of character.
