AOC, the smooth-brained representative from New York, is ignorant about many things, especially basic economics and socialism’s history of failure. But those aren’t the only topics about which she knows little; a recent video she posted on her Instagram raises the question of if she even knows the difference between natural gas and oil.
In the video, New York’s ignoramus asserts that the Keystone XL pipeline and the Line 3 pipeline, one of which Team Biden already cancelled and the other of which (Line 3) Team Brandon and AOC want to shut down, are meant to increase America’s natural gas exports. Watching it, it’s hard to not think of the “Amazing. Every word you just said was wrong” meme. To be specific, she says:
“A lot of these pipelines are being built so that the United States can export and sell natural gas abroad. And, you know, people make geopolitical arguments as to why that should be the case.”
For those that don’t know, both pipelines were built to transport oil, not natural gas. Furthermore, the oil transported comes from Canada to the US, so they have little to do with increasing our exports. Line 3 transports oil from Canada into the US via Minnesota, and has safely done so since the 1960s, and the Keystone XL pipeline would have also moved oil from Western Canada into the US.
AOC was roundly mocked for her comments and called out on Twitter:
In announcing her opposition to Pipeline 3, @AOC falsely claims it, along with the Keystone XL pipeline, were designed to export American natural gas abroad.

Ted Cruz, replying to the above tweet and mocking AOC, said “In, out; oil, gas; Canada, America…please don’t confuse liberals with facts.”
In the video, AOC adds:
“When you look at Keystone XL, and when you look at a lot of these other pipelines, people say, ‘Oh, this is for energy, you know, independence in the United States. We actually already produce enough to power our own country, whether you agree with it or not.”
Many will likely disagree with her assertion given that, while the US was energy independent under the pro-oil, pro-natural gas Trump Administration for the first time in many decades, that is not the case under the Brandon Administration, which has cancelled pipelines, abandoning large drilling projects, and introduced sweeping regulations that have harmed the oil and natural gas industries.
In fact, because the US is no longer energy independent thanks to Biden’s “green” agenda, Biden is now asking Russia and Middle Eastern countries to increase their oil production to lower the cost of oil. Apparently, he’d rather have money flow into the pockets of Russian oligarchs and Middle Eastern sheiks rather than Texas oilmen and the wildcat pumpers that created the shale revolution.
So, while the US might have been briefly energy independent again, it no longer is. The contempt ignoramuses like AOC have for pipelines and fracking certainly hasn’t helped; green policies have brought the shale revolution to a screeching halt, stopped pipeline improvements like the one planned by Line 3’s operator, which has faced intense environmentalist pressure to halt its $2.9 billion pipeline project, and even shut down new, safe sources of oil like the Keystone XL.
So yes, AOC, many people disagree and people like you that say pipelines like Line 3 “should not exist,” a comment from the entirely incorrect video, are largely to blame.
However, America might soon be energy independent again. A group of 21 states have pushed back against Biden’s cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline, arguing that his aciton was not only bad policy, but also unconstitutional:
“The President has certain prerogatives to act on behalf of the United States in foreign affairs. But as far as domestic law is concerned, the President must work with and abide by the limits set by Congress—whether he likes them or not.”
