Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is wasting no time in pushing back against increasing signs Democrats are going to ditch the long-standing filibuster rule so they can ram through a culture-and-country-changing Marxist agenda.
Speaking on the Senate floor Tuesday, the Kentucky Republican, who is considered to be quite knowledgeable of the chamber’s procedures, laid out a “scorched-earth” strategy that would essentially grind the chamber to a halt.

“Nobody serving in this chamber can even begin to imagine what a completely scorched-Earth Senate would look like,” he said.
The Washington Examiner added:
McConnell threatened the possibility of complete gridlock on the floor, pointing out that the Senate runs by unanimous consent, which means all 100 Senators must agree to the most basic terms of operating. Every move, he said, would require a vote of the full Senate, which is currently tied 50-50.
Vice President Kamala Harris would not be permitted to break those tied votes, McConnell added.
“I want my colleagues to imagine a world where every single task requires a physical quorum,” He said. “Even the most basic aspects of our colleagues’ agenda, the most mundane tasks of the Biden presidency, would be harder, not easier, for Democrats in a post-‘nuclear’ Senate that’s 50-50.”

McConnell’s threat comes as Democrats who once claimed to hold the filibuster rule as sacrosanct and a ‘cornerstone’ of the institution of the Senate have become massive hypocrites because now they are in charge.
One of them is a poster boy for term limits, Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois.
“The filibuster has a death grip on American democracy,” he wrote on Twitter Monday evening. “It’s time we end its power to hold the Senate hostage.”

Suddenly, he believes the filibuster “throws the system out of balance” and gives “one half of one branch” of the government “a monster veto” over the others.
“It promotes gridlock, not good governance,” added Durbin, noting further that senators only have to “threaten” a filibuster to “shut down the Senate.”
This is the same Dick Durbin who said, just a few short years ago, that the filibuster must be preserved so the “minority” has a say.
“Well, I can tell you that would be the end of the Senate as it was originally devised and created going back to our Founding Fathers,” he told ABC News. “We have to acknowledge our respect for the minority, and that is what the Senate tries to do in its composition and in its procedure.”
By January, that changed — after, of course, Democrats won both Senate seats in Georgia and took control over the chamber.
There are a couple of Democratic wild cards, though.
One of them is Sen. Joe Manchin of deep-red West Virginia. Last November, Manchin was adamant about keeping the filibuster in place (probably because he knows if Democrats get rid of it Republicans will use it to their advantage as well the next time they are in the majority).

“I commit to tonight and I commit to all of your viewers and everyone else that’s watching, I want to allay those fears, I want to rest those fears for you right now because when they talk about, whether it be packing the courts or ending the filibuster, I will not vote to do that,” he told Fox News.
Manchin has since softened his stance a bit, though he still backs keeping it in place.
A spokesperson for Sinema has said simply she’s not open to “changing her mind.”
