MLB’s decision to move the All-Star Game out of Atlanta in response to a liberal temper tantrum over Georgia’s new election integrity law is already having disastrous consequences.
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred relocated the game to Denver after Joe Biden endorsed the move. In response, Republicans (who were the league’s biggest supporters) are furious that leftist politics have poisoned “America’s pastime”, and are tuning out in great numbers.
In a new poll conducted by Morning Consult, Republican favorability toward Major League Baseball has collapsed by a stunning 35 percent in only one month. It plummeted further to a dismal 12 percent as the league’s brand takes a major hit. The decision to go fully “woke”, despite ample evidence that doing so has cost other professional sports leagues dearly in terms of conservative support, is hitting them where it hurts.
Baseball had managed to stay out of politics until last summer. That’s when the abbreviated season (due to COVID) opened with the league fully adopting the divisive message of the militant, Marxist-inspired Black Lives Matter. The movement gained mainstream support by leaps and bounds in the aftermath of the George Floyd viral video. This year, just one day after real fans replaced those sad cardboard cutouts in ballparks, Manfred chose to embark on a suicide mission by moving the All-Star Game.
MLB’s favorability rating dropped from 47 to 12 among Republican fans after moving the Atlanta all star game. And they gained no Democratic fan support. That’s catastrophic decision making by commissioner Rob Manfred. He lit the league brand on fire. https://t.co/PI4JO4KQuL

According to Morning Consult: “New data from Morning Consult Brand Intelligence, which tracks consumer attitudes, indicates that MLB’s net favorability rating among Republicans plummeted from 47 percentage points in mid-March to just 12 points at the end of last week, following the league’s decision to relocate its events. Net favorability is calculated by taking the difference between the share of respondents with a positive opinion of the league and the share with a negative opinion”.
“MLB had the highest net favorability rating among Republicans of the four major sports leagues before the All-Star Game decision, but last week dropped below that of both the NHL and NFL”, Morning Consult added.
Even prior to Biden going on ESPN it was likely that Manfred was going to crumble. He was lobbied by Stacy Abrams and groups associated with China apologist LeBron James and the Reverend Al Sharpton well before the broadcast. The President merely fell in lockstep with the dishonest claim that Georgia’s election integrity law was “Jim Crow on steroids”.
The relocation of the All-Star Game has been a monumental mistake in terms of negative public relations. It was quickly pointed out that the move has only punished Georgia businesses and workers (many of them black) who were counting on the event’s economic benefits. Compounding Manfred’s optics problem is the fact that Denver is overwhelmingly white and has stricter voting laws than Georgia does.
The fallout could end up costing baseball its treasured antitrust exemption as well, after GOP Senators led by Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, and Josh Hawley came out against the MLB’s monopoly and their embrace of “woke” politics.

It could be worse for MLB however, as Republicans polled have a minus five percent approval rating for the NBA. That league has completely destroyed its brand, which was built by greats like Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. All of whom wisely chose to not alienate their own fans and stayed out of politics.
