New York Times Op-Ed Tells Joe Biden Who To Pick As His 2020 Running Mate

Now that Joe Biden is the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, he’s going to need to select a running mate to help him defeat President Donald Trump.

A new op-ed from the New York Times is calling on Biden to select Stacey Abrams, the failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate who still has not conceded the election and claims she lost by more than 50,000 votes because of “voter suppression.”

The op-ed’s author, Center for American Progress fellow Steve Phillips, cites a number of female senators and governors as potential running mates for Biden, but settles on “Stacey Abrams of Georgia” because she is the only candidate on his list without a political title.

Phillips then focuses on polling data about how Abrams could help Biden win younger voters and boost African-American turnout. Even in states Biden won in the primary, such as Michigan, he was absolutely trounced by Sen. Bernie Sanders among voters under the age of 30.

This one poll alone, which was cited in the op-ed, should prove Abrams would be a catastrophic pick for VP:

Of the potential nominees, only Ms. Abrams outperformed Mr. Obama in her state, winning the 18-to-29-year-old vote in Georgia by nearly 30 points; Mr. Obama lost that group by three points. Only Senator Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, another common name on potential V.P. lists, equaled Mr. Obama’s performance with young voters in her state. The other contenders for whom there is data underperformed Mr. Obama in their most recent competitive race by significant margins.

Abrams for what it’s worth, seems open to the idea of being the VP candidate on the Democratic ticket.

“I would be an excellent running mate,” she said in an recent interview with Elle magazine. “If I am selected, I am prepared and excited to serve.” Abrams cited her “strong history of executive and management experience” as well as her “25 years in independent study of foreign policy,” whatever that means.

VOTE NOW: Should Trump FIRE all remaining Obama holdovers?

Joe doesn’t really know who he’s going to pick.

A former aide to Bide revealed this week that Joe could select a vice-presidential running mate who identifies as a woman.

During an online campaign event last Wednesday, Sleepy Joe slipped up big time and said he’s coming for California Democratic Sen. Kamala Harris.

Biden said: “I’m so lucky to have you be a part of this partnership going forward. Working together, we can make a great deal of progress. … I’m coming for you, kid.”
