No One Could Believe What Trey Gowdy Went On Fox News And Admitted To

Former South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy shocked many this week when he appeared on Fox News and admitted something most never thought he would say.

During an interview on "Fox & Friends," Gowdy was asked about the deadly shootings over the weekend in Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas.

Gowdy admitted that he would be willing to sacrifice every right laid out in the U.S. Constitution in order to prevent another tragedy.

“The right-to-life is the most fundamental, basic, primary right that we have. It is the right from which all other rights emanate,” Gowdy declared.

“Doesn’t matter if you are a right to a lawyer if you are dead. It doesn’t matter if you are the right to free speech if you are dead. Doesn’t matter if you have the right to keep and bear arms if you are dead,” he added.

“On a personal level, I’m willing to subrogate any of my other rights to avoid another Sandy Hook, another pulse nightclub, another day like we had yesterday. But I’m out of politics and I’m not going back,” Gowdy continued.

Viewers were likely stunned over his comments.

Many probably never imagined that Gowdy would be willing to give up many of his Constitutional rights if it meant there would be no more mass shootings in America.

But Gowdy continued by arguing that he believes every right has limits.

“Keep in mind, you don’t have a single right for which there is not some corresponding responsibility or restriction. Every right you have has a restriction,” the former Congressman exclaimed.

After making it clear that he did not want the Second Amendment trampled on, Gowdy argues that gun bans and new laws would not stop mass shootings.

“Just more laws that are not going to be enforced is a panacea and is not going to work. Show me a law to prevent the next Sandy Hook and sign me up as a husband and father,” Gowdy added.

“Show me the law and sign me up and I will give up any other right I have,” Gowdy stated.

Gowdy's argument is that every time a tragic shooting occurs, Democrats and their allies in the media immediately demand gun control.

He went on to argue that such a knee-jerk reaction is pointless and will not actually prevent future mass shootings.

What will work, Gowdy argued, is enacting laws that prevent -- or make it harder -- for people with mental health issues to purchase a firearm.

Gowdy's comments were in response to the two deadly shootings over the weekend.

In El Paso, the shooter killed at least 20 people and injured more than two dozen at a local Wal-Mart.

In Dayton, at least 10 were killed and more were injured.
