Over the weekend, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi spoke at a keynote event at the Texas Tribune Festival with moderator Evan Smith, the CEO of The Texas Tribune, about the impeachment proceedings against President Trump.
At one point, Smith asked the Speaker if she had a hard time realizing the fact that an impeachment inquiry against President Trump may hurt the Democratic controlled House in 2020. Nancy Pelosi replied by saying, "It doesn't matter."
"I want to ask you … heading into the next election cycle, do you have any anxiety at all about any of the stuff we’re talking about or anything that we’re not talking about impacting your ability to hold control of the House in 2020?" Smith asked.
Pelosi responded, "Doesn’t matter."
"It doesn’t matter?" Smith asked.
"Our first responsibility is to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." Pelosi claimed.

She later added: “People say you have to take a political risk doing that. That doesn’t matter. That doesn’t matter because we cannot have a President of the United States undermining his oath of office, his loyalty to his oath of office, undermining our national security, and undermining the integrity of our elections. Our elections are the fundamental point of our democracy.”
Pelosi then quoted Thomas Paine and added, "If this activity, this pattern of behavior were to prevail, and the president continued to ignore that Article 2 does not say he can do whatever he wants, then it’s over for the republic. We will have the equivalent of a monarchy. So, the times have found us, and we will take the course of integrity, of deliberation, of fairness, as I think we have done all along…"
Pelosi's move towards impeachment is an obvious political hit job. Last Tuesday, Pelosi announced an official impeachment inquiry against President Trump based off of a second-hand politically biased whistleblower's claim that President Trump bribed Ukraine's President with military funds to start an investigation into Joe Biden for getting a Ukrainian prosecutor fired who was investigating his son.
This move by the Speaker is an obvious political hit job with the sole intention of removing our duly elected president from office.
The whistleblower claimed that President Trump set up a quid pro quo agreement regarding military aid with Ukraine and in return, Ukraine would investigate Joe Biden. Pelosi used the whistleblower's claim to begin an impeachment inquiry, however the transcript of the call which was released the next day, revealed that President Trump did not leverage military aid in any way. The Democrats started an impeachment inquiry based on lies.
“The actions of the Trump presidency revealed dishonorable facts of the president’s betrayal of his oath of office, betrayal of his national security and betrayal of the integrity of our elections,” Pelosi said on Tuesday before the actual transcript of the call was even released.
