Piers Morgan Melts Down After United States Achieves Record Gun Sales

British journalist and former CNN host Piers Morgan just doesn’t get it: Firearms ownership in America is a birthright and one that our founders (ex-Brits, every one) understood should be universally recognized as a fundamental liberty.

Because possessing the means to defend yourself is a basic human right, not one that should only be ‘allowed’ if government says it’s okay.

So it should not be a surprise that our British cousin got a little bent out of shape when the latest figures on gun sales – as parts of the country explode with unrest – showed a dramatic increase in purchases.

“BREAKING: Just when you thought the news couldn't more depressing...8.3 million guns have been sold in the United States since March, meaning 2020 is on course to be the biggest year for gun sales in American history,” Morgan tweeted Wednesday.

Well, what’s ‘depressing’ to Morgan is music to the ears of Lady Liberty, because it means that more of Americans are becoming better protected from the encroaching mayhem than are people who live on Morgan’s side of the Atlantic.

And speaking of mayhem, let’s take a look at how ‘serene’ things are in gun-less Britain.

According to a June 2018 report in The Sun, violent crime was surging in Britain, rising by more than 50 percent in parts of the United Kingdom as knife attacks and moped muggings dramatically increased:

Durham Police saw a staggering 58 per cent rise in violence, while forces in South Yorkshire followed close behind with a recorded increase of 57 per cent.

Kent Police had the third biggest rise in recorded violence as cops from that force noted a 47 per cent increase.

The skyward trend continued into the present, as the Shropshire Star reported in April:

Violent crime rose by 14 per cent across the West Mercia Police area last year, accounting for 88,499 offences, including 14 cases of murder or manslaughter.

“Knife crime and serious violence continues to be a crime that affects society and over the past few years we’ve carried out a lot of work to tackle knife crime,” Shropshire police commander Mo Landsdale told the outlet.

But Breitbart News gets right to the heart of the matter: “How Gun Control Made England The ‘Most Violent Country in Europe” – from Awr Hawkins in 2014:

Gun control in Britain passed in stages, beginning just after World War I and continuing in a reactionary fashion with increasing strictness through the 1990s.

He noted further that in 2009, a dozen years after the passage of the Firearms Act of 1997, the most restrictive gun control law to date, the Daily Mail reported that Britain had achieved the status of “most violent country in Europe.”

Way to go, guys.

Perhaps Morgan has never read criminologist Dr. John Lott’s continually updated research in which he finds that the more legally owned guns there are circulating in America, the less crime there has been.

But the biggest pushback is that Americans who are or feel threatened by, say, mobs who break into a private St. Louis gated community, have a means of defending themselves.

Not so in Morgan’s neck of the woods.
