On Friday, President Donald Trump blasted Democrats for "wasting time" by constantly attacking him for the coronavirus outbreak around the world.
The Trump administration has been working constantly to prepare for the coronavirus which may be making it's way to the United States. Despite this, Democrats and the media continue to hammer the President to make him look bad.
“So, the Coronavirus, which started in China and spread to various countries throughout the world, but very slowly in the U.S. because President Trump closed our border, and ended flights, VERY EARLY, is now being blamed, by the Do Nothing Democrats, to be the fault of ‘Trump’,” President Trump tweeted on Friday.
Trump also hammered Democrats for “wasting time." “The Do Nothing Democrats were busy wasting time on the Immigration Hoax, & anything else they could do to make the Republican Party look bad, while I was busy calling early BORDER & FLIGHT closings, putting us way ahead in our battle with Coronavirus,” President Trump said. “Dems called it VERY wrong!”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer joined forces to hammer President Trump instead of actually doing something about the coronavirus.
“The United States government must do more to address the spread of the deadly coronavirus in a smart, strategic, and serious way and we stand ready to work in a bipartisan fashion in Congress and with the administration to achieve this necessary goal,” their joint statement read. “Lives are at stake — this is not the time for name-calling or playing politics.”
White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney had similar comments as President Trump as he hammered the media for cheering on the crashing stock market and purposely panicking the American people with the coronavirus in an effort to make President Trump look bad.
“The reason you’re seeing so much attention to it today, they think that this is what’s going to bring down the president,” Mulvaney said during a press conference.
President Trump appointed Vice President Mike Pence to be in charge of the response to the Coronavirus which led to mass criticism from Democrats and the media.
“The word this morning is, we’re controlling the message and that it’s a political issue, not a medical issue,” Mulvaney said. “That is completely false.”
Mulvaney then mocked a reporter who asked what the Trump administration was going to do to "calm" the stock market.
“Really, what I might do today to calm the market is to tell the people to turn their televisions off for 24 hours,” he said.
Mulvaney went on to hammer the media for suggesting that President Trump's travel ban from China was "racist."
“We were accused by some on the left of being racist for doing that,” Mulvaney said. “True. I’m not making this up. That was in the press, that this was an anti-Asian policy that we were doing this.”
Mulvaney went on to admit that the coronavirus threat was indeed real but that the actual threat was much less than what the media made it out to be. He noted how the mortality rate, under 2%, was much less than other viruses including the SARS and Ebola outbreaks.
“It’s not a death sentence, it’s not the ebola crisis,” he also added.
