On Thursday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that anti-white racism might be building in the United States, and that if “political correctness” keeps being taken to the extremes it will have lamentable consequences.
Lavrov said that, “everyone wants to get rid of racism. We were pioneers in the movement promoting equal rights of people of any skin color“. The Russian Diplomat then stressed that it was important “not to switch to the other extreme which we saw during the ‘BLM’ (Black Lives Matter) events and the aggression against white people, white US citizens”.
Black Lives Matter became a rallying cry when it was founded in 2013, and it grew louder after George Floyd died last year after an encounter with a police officer. The movement in 2020 led a global debate about race and the rights of people of color in predominantly white nations. The protests turned to riots and led to toppling of statues all over the United States and even some in the United Kingdom.
Lavrov accused the United States of pushing a “cultural revolution” around the world, saying that the United States has “colossal possibilities for it. Hollywood is now also changing its rules so that everything reflects the diversity of modern society“, he said calling it, “a form of censorship“.
He even called out the black-washing of European history and drama: “I’ve seen Black people play in Shakespeare’s comedies. Only I don’t know when there will be a white Othello. You see this is absurd. Political correctness taken to the point of absurdity will not end well‘.
