On Friday, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg agreed to put a hold on the Democrats' efforts to obtain President Donald Trump's financial records.
This decision by Ginsburg came after the President asked the Court to temporarily block subpoena's for his tax records.
The application, according to CNBC “was submitted to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg because she is assigned to the 2nd Circuit.”
UPON CONSIDERATION of the application of counsel for the applicants,
IT IS ORDERED that the mandate of the United States Supreme Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, case No. 19-1540, issued December 3, 2019, is hereby recalled and stayed until 5 p.m. on December 13, 2019. It is further ordered that a response be filed on or before December 11, 2019 by 11 a.m.
Politico reported, “Trump-related requests are piling up at the Supreme Court — and the outcomes could set precedent on significant questions related to separation-of-power issues and whether a president is immune from state-based criminal investigations while in office.”
“Trump’s lawyers asked the high court to put a hold a Dec. 3 ruling by Manhattan-based 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals directing the two banks to comply with April subpoenas by the House of Representatives Financial Services Committee and Intelligence Committee for the financial records,” CNBC also noted. “The material sought by the committees includes records of accounts, transactions and investments linked to Trump, his three oldest children, their immediate family members and several Trump Organization entities.”
This news comes as Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi announced that she would be going forward with the ongoing impeachment inquiry, encouraging members of the House to vote to impeach President Trump.
“Our democracy is what is at stake. The president leaves us no choice but to act because he is trying to corrupt, once again, the election for his own benefit,” Pelosi said, also noting that President Trump's actions “are in defiance of the vision” of his oath of office.
“Sadly, but with confidence and humility, with allegiance to our founders, and a heart full of love for America, today I am asking our chairmen to proceed with articles of impeachment,” Pelsoi said, obviously pretending to be sad. “I commend our committee chairs and our members for their somber approach to actions which I wish the president had not made necessary.”
The President clearly seems to be unworried considering he is encouraging the vote.
“The Do Nothing Democrats had a historically bad day yesterday in the House. They have no Impeachment case and are demeaning our Country. But nothing matters to them, they have gone crazy,” President Trump tweeted
“Therefore I say, if you are going to impeach me, do it now, fast, so we can have a fair … trial in the Senate, and so that our Country can get back to business,” he added.
