The Leftist Mob WINS: Boston to Remove Emancipation Statue Featuring Lincoln

More evidence that the ongoing ‘protests’ and ‘demonstrations’ we continue to see around the country are no longer about the death of George Floyd and are instead part of a widening cultural revolution that seeks to wipe out American’s founding and its history can be found in Boston, where Marxist sympathizers have decided that Abraham Lincoln isn’t ‘woke’ enough.
For it is in that city the Great Emancipator, as he was called back in his day when he wasn’t doing much except leading the fight to restore the Union and defeat the slaveholding Confederacy, is now a figure to be derided, criticized, mocked, destroyed, and memory-holed.
The Boston Arts Commission unanimously voted Tuesday to take down the city’s historic Emancipation Memorial after activists demanded the statue’s removal.
The memorial depicts Abraham Lincoln standing with one arm raised over a freed slave crouched on his knees.
Broken chains are depicted around the black man’s wrists and the word “emancipation” is written at the statue’s base.
The statue was funded largely by contributions from former slaves, according toWBZ4.
The symbology is what is triggering the insanely unwoke Left but it’s that symbology that makes the statue so great.
Yes, Lincoln is depicted standing over an African American crouched on his knees. But the African is truly an American – finally – as evidenced by the broken chains. And while he’s on his knees he’s obviously been freed so he can now stand tall and proud and take his rightful place alongside the president who was responsible for his freedom.
(Lincoln was the one who pushed a hesitant U.S. Congress to finally pass the Thirteenth Amendment, constitutionally banning slavery throughout the newly reconstituted United States. And Lincoln was the one who freed slaves via executive order – the ‘Emancipation Proclamation.’)
But no matter. He doesn’t belong in ‘woke’ Boston anymore.
“As we continue our work to make Boston a more equitable and just city, it’s important that we look at the stories being told by the public art in all of our neighborhoods,” Democratic Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said in a statement.
“After engaging in a public process, it’s clear that residents and visitors to Boston have been uncomfortable with this statue, and its reductive representation of the Black man’s role in the abolitionist movement. I fully support the Boston Art Commission’s decision for removal and thank them for their work,” he added.
What a load of you-know-what. If you’re trying to say that you have to get rid of a statue of Lincoln to build “a more equitable and just city” – literally the president who was responsible for building a ‘more equitable and just’ country – you’re being completely disingenuous.
All Walsh is doing is genuflecting to the Marxist cultural revolutionaries because he is like-minded.
As for his insinuation that black men played any sort of role in the abolitionist movement, there were only a few who did (and were able to), Frederick Douglass being the most prominent. The vast majority of other black men of the era were reduced to bondage in some way, shape, or form.
But we don’t want to do real history when revisionist history is much more ‘woke.’
What’s next? Dismantling the Lincoln Memorial in D.C. and sandblasting Lincoln’s face off of Mount Rushmore?
