Trump, Grenell Blast 'Fake News' NYTimes Over Claim Russians Tried Offering Taliban Bounties for Killing US Troops

Repeat fake news offender The New York Times got fact-checked big-time on Sunday after publishing another horrifically wrong story claiming that Russian military units were trying to pay bounties to Taliban fighters who targeted and killed American soldiers in Afghanistan.
While many of the Times readers are afflicted with Trump Derangement Syndrome and automatically believe everything bad about the president the “Old Gray Lady” publishes, rational people saw right away the report was long on narrative but extremely short on details.
The most relevant passage literally contains zero corroboration:
The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the delicate intelligence and internal deliberations. They said the intelligence had been treated as a closely held secret, but the administration expanded briefings about it this week — including sharing information about it with the British government, whose forces are among those said to have been targeted.
The intelligence assessment is said to be based at least in part on interrogations of captured Afghan militants and criminals. The officials did not describe the mechanics of the Russian operation, such as how targets were picked or how money changed hands. It is also not clear whether Russian operatives had deployed inside Afghanistan or met with their Taliban counterparts elsewhere.
The most relevant question is…why now? There hasn’t been anything much in the news lately about the war in Afghanistan or the Trump administration’s efforts to end it. So right away, you have to think that this is more of a ‘hit’ piece designed to harm the White House in some way.
Secondly, virtually everyone associated with the story is denying it’s veracity.
Dmitry Peskov, the Press Secretary for Russian President Vladimir Putin, said the country had no diplomatic complaints on record.
“If someone makes them, we'll respond,” Peskov told the Times.
Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban, said the group had no “such relations with any intelligence agency,” adding that the report sought to “defame” the group.
“These kinds of deals with the Russian intelligence agency are baseless — our target killings and assassinations were ongoing in years before, and we did it on our own resources,' Mujahid explained. “That changed after our deal with the Americans, and their lives are secure and we don't attack them.”
Put that to the smell test: While the Russian denial is expected, the objective of the Taliban is to get American forces out of the country so they can operate freely within the country and, likely, seek to retake control of it.
Continuing to attack American soldiers prevents a deal from being done and prolongs the American presence. So obviously, the John Bolton wing of the intelligence community deep state, which has been working to keep U.S. troops perpetually engaged in Afghanistan, is attempting to sabotage any peace deal.
And as always, The New York Times is eager to be complicit.
President Donald Trump wasn't having any of it.
Neither was former acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell, who blasted that lunatic, Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) for ‘politicizing’ intelligence.
Or the current DNI, John Ratcliffe, who also noted that the information is false.
So – when can we expect a retraction from The Garbage Times? Yes, we know…we aren’t going to hold our breath, and neither should readers.
