During a recent interview, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky once again defended President Donald Trump, saying there was never any discussion of a “quid pro quo” between the two.
“I never talked to the president from the position of a quid pro quo. That’s not my thing,” Zelensky said during a TIME Magazine interview on Monday.
Democrats have claimed that President Trump demanded investigations into the Biden family and in exchange, the United States would release military aid to Ukraine.
“I don’t want us to look like beggars. But you have to understand. We’re at war,” Zelensky continued. “If you’re our strategic partner, then you can’t go blocking anything for us. I think that’s just about fairness. It’s not about a quid pro quo. It just goes without saying.”
Breitbart reports: “Zelensky’s comments come as House Democrats move swiftly with their impeachment inquiry against President Trump. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi formally launched efforts to remove the president after a partisan CIA analyst filed a “whistleblower” complaint alleging that the president pressured the leader of Ukraine to investigate allegations corruption against former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden. The complaint, based on second-hand information, claimed President Trump appeared to have signaled that he would withhold aid unless the probes were conducted — something the president and Zelensky have repeatedly denied.”
“There was no blackmail,” Zelensky said back in October. “We are not servants. We are an independent country.”
On Monday morning, President Trump highlighted Zelensky’s interview in a tweet: “Breaking News: The President of Ukraine has just again announced that President Trump has done nothing wrong with respect to Ukraine and our interactions or calls. If the Radical Left Democrats were sane, which they are not, it would be case over!” he tweeted.
Zelensky’s comments come at the same time as House Intelligence Committee chairman Rep. Adam Schiff plans on moving forward with impeachment. Over the weekend, Schiff announced that he is giving members of his committee only 24 hours to sign off on his bogus report where he recommends impeaching President Donald Trump.
The far-left representative revealed that he will provide his report on Monday and members of the committee only have till Tuesday to read and sign off on the report.
Evidence is not on the Democrats’ side in the ongoing impeachment inquiry but that doesn’t seem to be stopping them. Schiff held multiple impeachment hearings in late November and although no impeachable offenses were found, Schiff has made it clear that he will impeach the President anyways.
In a recent letter, House Judiciary Committee chairman Jerry Nadler said that the House Intelligence Committee plans to submit their report, recommending impeachment against the President, stating that there was “a months-long effort in which President Trump again sought foreign interference in our elections for his personal and political benefit at the expense of our national interest”; and that the president conducted “an unprecedented campaign of obstruction in an effort to prevent the Committees from obtaining documentary evidence and testimony.”
On Tuesday. Nadler announced that he would be holding his own impeachment hearings next week and invited President Trump to testify.
Nadler’s hearings are called the “the constitutional grounds for presidential impeachment,” and the structure will be different than Rep. Adam Schiff’s hearings considering they will include legal experts who will give their opinions on whether or not the president committed an impeachable offense.
