US Women’s Soccer Stars Reject White House Visit; Then Pelosi Makes Cringeworthy Announcement
After the United States Women's national soccer team made it clear that they will not visit the White House after winning the World Cup, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made a cringeworthy offer of her own.
While speaking to reporters on Monday, Pelosi said that she invited the Wold Cup-winning team to be honored on Capitol Hill.
Pelosi wrote to colleagues that "by popular demand on both sides of the aisle," she has invited the players to the Capitol "to celebrate their inspiring victory."
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said on the Senate floor that he also invited them as he lauded the women for their "sustained level of excellence."
Some of the team's biggest stars, particularly Megan Rapinoe, have made a point of presenting themselves as part of the Never-Trump "resistance."
Just last month, Rapinoe said she was not "going to the f***ing White House" when asked about her feud with President Donald Trump.
"I'm not going to the f*****g White House," Rapinoe told soccer magazine Eight By Eight in June. "No. I'm not going to the White House. We're not gonna be invited. I doubt it."
(**Warning: Foul language used in the clip below**)
Rapinoe has been in the hot seat for awhile over her anti-American antics.
She previously refused to stand for the national anthem.
Then, after a ton of blow back, she stood for the anthem but refused to place her hand over her heart as an "F you" to Trump and his administration.
Trump has been very supportive of the U.S. Women's team, but he has taken notice of Rapinoe's anti-American actions.
"I am a big fan of the American Team, and Women's Soccer, but Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job! We haven't yet. We haven't yet invited Megan or the team, but I am now inviting the TEAM, win or lose," Trump said in response to Rapinoe declaring she wasn't going to the "f***ing White House."
Trump criticized Rapinoe for refusing to honor the flag, saying: "Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her & the team. Be proud of the Flag that you wear. The USA is doing GREAT!"
Beyond that, it sure looks like Rapinoe convinced -- or pressured -- the entire team to reject an offer from the White House and instead go to Capitol Hill to celebrate with Pelosi.
