President Donald Trump is routinely called a “bigot” and a “homophobe” – among many other really vile things, none of which are true.
In fact, some believe he’s one of the most “pro-gay” presidents they’ve ever seen, and that includes Democratic presidents who have represented a party that claims ownership to ‘the most woke’ gay and lesbian policies.
One of them is Richard Grenell, the first openly gay Cabinet member who was appointed by – anyone? – President Trump.
In a video, Grenell, a former acting director of national intelligence and who recently joined the Republican National Committee as its senior adviser for LGBT outreach, talks about how the president has done more for the community than his predecessors.
“As a United States senator, Joe Biden said gay people couldn’t receive security clearances because we would be a security risk,” Grenell, a former U.S. ambassador to Germany, noted.
“Joe must have been terrified when Donald Trump appointed me as acting director of national intelligence,” he continued. “The fact that I’m gay didn’t even faze Donald Trump. Joe Biden certainly didn’t congratulate the appointment or even acknowledge it. But his silence was deafening.”
Regarding his RNC post, Fox News reported that Grenell recently joined the Republican Party.
“As America’s first openly-gay cabinet member, I can confidently say that President Trump has done more for gay and lesbian Americans than any other president, and it is not even close,” Grenell said in a statement to Fox News.
Grenell went on to slam Biden again, saying that during his “four decades in Washington, he consistently fought against marriage equality and even threatened to cut funding for schools who taught acceptance of homosexuality.”
“From President Trump’s global campaign to decriminalize homosexuality to becoming the first president to support gay marriage on his first day in office, he has been a champion for our community and I am thrilled to be part of the fight to re-elect him for four more years,” Grenell said.
In the video, Grenell further notes that Trump has “done more to advance the rights of gays and lesbians in three years than Joe Biden did in 40-plus years in Washington,” adding that he supported the Clinton-era “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy adopted by the Pentagon and the Defense of Marriage Act.
“Biden said again and again that he was against marriage equality,” the former diplomat and DNI noted further.
“I know first-hand that President Trump is the strongest ally that gay Americans have ever had in the White House,” he continued, adding that Trump “is the first president in American history to be pro-gay marriage from his first day in office.”
He went on to note that Trump has been battling and sanctioning the “homophobic” Iranian regime since he came into office, while Biden – while serving under President Barack Obama – embraced the Iranian regime and rewarded them with billions of dollars.
Trump, at the UN, also pressed the dozens of countries to get rid of their laws against homosexuality, Grenell said.
