Watch: House of Mouse Down $63B Since Going to War With DeSantis

Disney’s epic fall from grace began in March when CEO Bob Chapek came out against Florida’s parental rights in education bill. He promised to fight the bill and be a better ally to the LGBTQ+ community. Previous to this, there was an internal call showing executives saying they had a not so secret gay agenda to expose children to homosexual people in their programming. On the call Latoya Reveneau discussed sneaking same sex couples in the backgrounds of shows in order to support this agenda.

This led to a parental revolt against the company.  Twitter lit up with parents saying that they were canceling their Disney plus subscriptions. Several podcasts went up about whether or not cancelling Disney was the right movement by parents.

Shortly after these comments, as expected, parents started cancelling subscriptions left and right. This doesn’t bode well for the mouse economically. “Shares of Disney have plummeted 23.5 percent since the start of March, falling from $145.70. Market cap is down $62.6 billion, from $265.3 to $202.7 billion,” Breitbart reports. Disney is currently one of the worst performing stocks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

Not willing to learn from its mistakes Disney doubled down on stupid. They took on the state of Florida and Governor DeSantis. They fought Florida’s HB 1557 and renamed it the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill even though it was a parental rights bill. The company released a statement against the bill on March 28th 2022.

Apparently, the mouse forgot that it was a children’s entertainment company and started to believe it had the power to change the laws and the government. Well, we can all agree that Disney at one time really did have the power to change the future by what they showed children, parents are taking back that power in droves. Florida lawmakers didn’t take kindly to Disney trying to change the state’s laws. DeSantis later signed a bill to remove Disney’s special tax and self governing privileges that it had previously enjoyed for over 50 years.

Not content to be universally hated by conservative parents, Disney recently created a diversity and inclusion program called Reimagine Tomorrow. This program includes training on systemic racism, white fragility, white privilege, white saviors, microaggressions, and anti racism. Disney asked employees to fill out a privilege checklist during this program. They also launched racially segregated “affinity groups” at the company’s headquarters.

The core of the program is a series of training modules. In one module, Ally for Racial Consciousness, the company tells employees that they must take ownership of educating themselves about anti-black racism. It adds that they should not rely on their black colleagues to educate them because it is emotionally taxing. It goes on to claim that the United States has a long history of systemic racism and transphobia while admonishing white employees that they must work through feelings of guilt, shame, and defensiveness to understand what lies beneath them. Disney further recommends that employees atone for challenging colorblind ideologies such as, “all lives matter”, “I don’t see color”, and that they must listen with empathy to black colleagues.  How do you demand that a person listens with empathy in all seriousness?

Another module titled What Can I Do About Racism, tells employees that they should reject equality and instead strive for equity. The focus should be on equality of outcome. This module trains a series of lessons on implicit bias, microaggressions, and becoming an anti racist. In order to make sure that these ideas were put into action Disney sponsored the creation of a 21 day racial equity and social justice challenge in partnership with the YWCA. Employees were asked to fill out a privilege checklist with options including I am white, I am heterosexual, I am a man, I still identify as the gender I was born with, and I have never been raped.

The corporate culture is so toxic that multiple employees came forward with this information asked not to be identified so they wouldn’t be fired. There are almost daily memos, suggested readings, panels and seminars centered around anti racism one employee was quoted as saying. The company has been completely ideologically one sided another employee complained. The company is actively discouraging Christian employees from expressing their views. “I attended several [training sessions] at the beginning just to see what the temperature of the discussion would be and to gauge if I would be able to bring up my own objections in a safe way—safe meaning for my career. And I’ve continually gotten the unspoken answer: ‘no,’” said the employee. “It’s been very stifling to feel like everyone keeps talking about having open dialogue and compassionate conversations, but when it comes down to it, I know if I said one thing that was truthful, based on data, or even just based on my own personal experience, it would actually be rather unwelcomed.”

With this latest news it appears that the mouse is trying to commit suicide. It is doubtful that Disney can recover from its public relations disaster now.
