When it comes to holding international organizations accountable for harming America, don’t expect Democrats — including their presumptive 2020 presidential nominee — to do that.
You may recall in recent weeks President Donald Trump’s decision to withhold U.S. funding to the World Health Organization over it’s culpability in helping China cover up the dangerous effects of the coronavirus outbreak for those vital first weeks when the world could have been preparing for it.

Now, former Vice President Joe Biden claims he’ll move quickly if elected to restore funding to the dishonest global health agency despite the fact that the WHO claimed early on that China had contained the virus’ spread and that the ChiComs said it couldn’t spread to humans anyway, The Epoch Times reports.

“Yes, I will,” Biden said during an interview with a local CBS affiliate in Miami.
“But I’ll also insist that we do what we were doing before. We had set up a pandemic office within the White House, President Obama. We had CDC, the folks for the Centers for Disease Control, forward-stationed in other countries to anticipate when we might see a virus coming, a pandemic coming, because there are going to be more of these,” Biden said.
He claimed that the United States should be “more engaged in the world” and can’t “step back” — implying that President Trump isn’t engaged in the world when in fact, he is — he’s rewriting the global rules so that countries that have long taken advantage of us no longer get away with it.
Biden will represent a return to that status quo.
“If, for example, we solve the problem in the United States of America, and you don’t solve it in other parts of the world, you know what’s going to happen? You’re going to have travel bans, you’re not going to be able to have economic intercourse around the world. When America goes alone, when America’s first, it’s America alone,” Biden said.
“And the idea that we’re stepping back from world leadership that in fact we engaged in during the virus and pandemics in the past, it is leaving it leaderless, as a matter of fact. So we have to get back in the game,” he added.
As for the ‘pandemic office’ in Barack Obama’s White House:
— It still did not help Obama declare a national emergency faster during the Swine Flu pandemic because the office wasn’t created until 2015, after that pandemic and the Zika and Ebola outbreaks;
— Trump never fired ‘the entire pandemic response team,’ as Reuters notes:
In May 2018, the team was disbanded and its head Timothy Ziemer, top White House official in the NSC for leading U.S. response against a pandemic, left the Trump administration, the Washington Post reported ( here ). Some members of the global health and security team were merged into other units within the NSC, the article said.

The reorganization followed John Bolton’s appointment as national security advisor, and the departure of Tom Bossert, the homeland security advisor who the Post wrote “had called for a comprehensive biodefense strategy against pandemics and biological attacks.”
Tim Morrison, former senior director for counterproliferation and biodefense on the NSC, wrote in another Washington Post Op-Ed, “It is true that the Trump administration has seen fit to shrink the NSC staff. But the bloat that occurred under the previous administration clearly needed a correction. … One such move at the NSC was to create the counterproliferation and biodefense directorate, which was the result of consolidating three directorates into one, given the obvious overlap between arms control and nonproliferation, weapons of mass destruction terrorism, and global health and biodefense. It is this reorganization that critics have misconstrued or intentionally misrepresented. If anything, the combined directorate was stronger because related expertise could be commingled.”
It should be noted that the White House pandemic response office was a redundancy. Several government agencies including the CDC, HHS, USDA, and DHS, along with the Pentagon have special divisions and units that specifically monitor the world for biological outbreaks.
That said, restoring WHO’s funding after it promoted Chinese propaganda surrounding the outbreak is a typical Democrat move.
