President Donald Trump pledged during the height of riotous protests and demonstrations last month that his administration would apply the full force of the law to anyone defacing or destroying federal property.

And he wasn’t kidding.

A black suspect arrested for spraying graffiti in defacing the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., in June now faces the maximum 10 years in prison if convicted, The Epoch Times reports:

Micah Avery, 26, a District of Columbia resident, described as a black male, was indicted this week on charges of destruction of federal property. …

According to a criminal complaint, U.S. Park Police officers on May 30 saw Avery graffiti the words “Yall not tired yet?” with black spray paint on the Lincoln Memorial, a monument to former President Abraham Lincoln.

“Defacing one of our country’s national monuments will not be tolerated,” Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Michael Sherwin said in a statement.

According to the Justice Department, officers allegedly saw Avery committing his act of destruction and chased him down. When they caught him, they took an iPhone from him and saw a message pop up on it saying, “I think they saw you tag” – which appears to have been a reference to his alleged act of spraying graffiti at the memorial.

But as he resisted being placed in a patrol car, a crowd of ‘peaceful protesters’ gathered and began striking and pushing the two officers, allowing Avery to escape.

Cops found him later, though, by other officers who were stationed at the monument. He was easy to spot; he was still wearing the set of cuffs the other officers had put on him.

He now faces the full dime behind bars and a fine of up to $250,000 for his idiotic act of destruction that had nothing to do with George Floyd and wouldn’t bring him back if it did.

The Epoch Times noted further that federal law outlines the punishment for destruction of federal property that exceeds $100; the cost to clean up the graffiti was $1,000.

Last month, President Trump announced a new executive order aimed at granting federal authorities additional power while providing them with more legal tools so they could successfully prosecute people who wantonly destroy the people’s monuments.

“I just had the privilege of signing a very strong Executive Order protecting American Monuments, Memorials, and Statues – and combatting recent Criminal Violence. Long prison terms for these lawless acts against our Great Country!” he tweeted.

“President Trump will not tolerate the rampant violence and destruction that has occurred over the last five weeks,” a White House statement announcing the executive order reads.

“Left-wing extremists are rioting, looting, and calling for the destruction of the United States system of government,” the statement continues. “Through mob intimidation, these violent extremists are attempting to impose their ideology on the law-abiding citizens of this country. Some state and local governments are failing their citizens by not distinguishing between peaceful protest and violent chaos.”
