BOOM! Trump to Sign Order Making Federal Hiring MORE Fair for Non-Degree Holders

If the Democrat-installed system of federal political patronage is one thing, it’s this: Elitist, exclusive, and discriminatory – all of which are traits that the Left often ascribes to the Right.

But because he really is a president for all Americans, Donald Trump changed that on Friday.

The president signed an executive order mandating that the federal government “open the playing field to all” applicants, giving higher priority to a person’s skills rather than their formal education or qualification.

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany confirmed the signing would take place Friday. Trump is expected to sign the order during a meeting of the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board, of which the president’s daughter Ivanka Trump serves as co-chair.

“President Trump built the most inclusive economy once and will do it again,” Ivanka Trump wrote on Twitter, adding that the executive order directs the U.S. government “to hire on the basis of skills (and) knowledge rather than simply degree requirements.”

“We are modernizing federal hiring to find candidates with the relevant competencies and knowledge, rather than simply recruiting based on degree requirements,” Ivanka Trump added.

“We encourage employers everywhere to take a look at their hiring practices and think critically about how initiatives like these can help diversify and strengthen their workforce,” she said.

Meanwhile, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, who is co-chair of the advisory board, said that the demand for apprenticeships and training is as high now as it was before the coronavirus pandemic led to tens of millions of job losses and a national unemployment rate above 13 percent at its peak in May.

“Americans are eager to get to work but they need our help,” said Ross.

The Epoch Times quoted an unnamed senior administration official as saying that the order is not a slap in the face to college-educated applicants but rather, “this is truly just opening the playing field for all.”

The official went on to note that three out of 10 people with college degrees work in areas that are not related to their fields of study. As such, the order seeks to change existing rules to prevent situations where a more skilled applicant is shunned in favor of another who simply has a college degree.

“Someone with a completely unrelated college degree can now be deemed qualified for a position and outcompete someone—under the current rules—that is qualified for the job based on their skills and abilities, who would not be able to get that job,” the official said.

“And that goes counter to the merit-based system and principles of our civil service and I think counter to fairness and getting the best person for the job.”

Tim Murtaugh, the communications director for the 2020 Trump reelection campaign, called the order “a groundbreaking directive,” while praising daughter Ivanka for being “a leader in this effort as well.”

According to the Times, the federal government is the country’s biggest employer at 2.1 million.
