It’s no secret that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has higher political ambitions.

She can’t stand the ‘old guard’ leadership of the Democrat Party, and she has made that clear on several occasions.

To her way of thinking, the current leaders are too old and far too ‘moderate.’ The party, in her view, needs to become an Americanized version of Karl Marx’s vision – a dense combo of socialism and Communism where the central government runs just about every aspect of our lives.

And she seems committed to ensuring the transformation occurs. But here’s the worst part, at least for our country: Time is on her side.

Newly re-elected House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is 80 and has been in D.C. for 30 years. In the Senate, Minority Leader Charles Schumer from her home state is 70.

AOC is 31. So again, time is on her side. And she’s already moving to make the most of it.

For months rumors have swirled that she may try to primary Schumer when he’s next up for reelection in 2022 (because we know how the game works in D.C. – once you’re there, you’re there until they carry you out of the Capitol Building, practically).

She was asked again on Monday if that’s a thing for her, and she was cagey.

It wasn’t a resounding ‘yes,’ but it for certain was not a definitive ‘no.’

“It’s a hard thing to say, too. We’ve had to deal with a fascist president and Mitch McConnell,” she told Punchbowl News. “There are things you can do in the minority. There are also things you couldn’t do with this minority because Senate rules changed.”

“I like to think of myself as a good-faith actor and not make unfair critiques. But I do wonder,” Ocasio-Cortez added.

Got that? Not a yes, not a no…which very often in Washington that she’s waiting for some focus group and polling data before making up her mind.

That said, her bid would be anything from a slam-dunk, as Fox News reports:

Ocasio-Cortez may be a star on social media, but her political power is still limited. In December, the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee voted to seat Rep. Kathleen Rice on a coveted committee over Ocasio-Cortez, her New York colleague, in the latest example of House Democrats bucking the firebrand who represents the Bronx and Queens.

This is not the first time that Ocasio-Cortez has declined to rule out interest in Schumer’s seat. In April, when asked if she’d rule out a run against the most powerful Democrat in the U.S. Senate in 2022, she replied: “I don’t know.”

Previously, she said that she wasn’t thinking about the Senate “in any serious way.” But things appear to have changed.

Granted, lots of Twitter and Instagram followers do not translate into political power in D.C., especially when you’re just representing a small New York City district or half of a smallish state. But clearly, this woman has higher political ambitions, and she’s got the time to wait out the obstacles, including Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi if she chooses to do so.
