Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa got the claws out and went full Wolverine all over the Department of Justice on Monday, hacking and slashing for “repeated failure to prosecute employees” who were busted lying during internal investigations.
Ever since former President Donald Trump took office back in 2016, it has become evident that our DOJ has been suffering from a bad case of gangrene, rotting away from the inside due to the corruption of left-wing individuals working in the FBI and other agencies connected to the department.
Unfortunately, there’s not been any action taken to hold these corrupt individuals accountable for their actions, which has continued to allow the wound to fester.
“An unsettling pattern has emerged from the Department of Justice (DOJ) whereby criminal referrals by the Department of Justice, Office of Inspector General (OIG), against DOJ employees for making materially false statements are rarely prosecuted,” Grassley went on to say in a letter written to Attorney General Merrick Garland.
Grassley then went on to say that the “most shocking pattern” took place last month after the DOJ refused to bring charges against FBI agents responsible for botching the investigation into Dr. Larry Nassar, who formerly worked as the U.S. women’s national gymnastics team physician who ended up getting handed a prison sentence for assaulting gymnasts.
According to a report from Just the News, “The Iowa Republican listed a dozen other cases in which the United States Attorney’s Office declined to prosecute staffers. For example, the OIG substantiated allegations that an employee made inaccurate statements in an investigation report and the staffer even admitted to lying, but the attorney’s office decided to not prosecute.”
“In another case, the OIG supported the claim that an employee received about $350,000 worth of excess worker’s compensation disability payments, but the office did not file charges,” the report stated.
“Laws are meant to deter criminal activity, but when DOJ does not enforce those laws but rather shields their employees from consequences, it has the opposite effect. It creates a sense of entitlement and signals that DOJ employees are beyond reproach,” Grassley then remarked, going on to add that “DOJ employees should be held to a higher standard” or else the department risks losing Americans’ trust.
Grassley then asked a very interesting question, one that if we had the answer to, would be very enlightening. Just how many employees that work for the Justice Department have been prosecuted over the course of the last five years?
The Iowa senator then wanted to know more information concerning why the department did not prosecute agents that were suspected of wrongdoing in the Nassar case.
Those who are in the FBI and other agencies that have been engaged in corruption need to be held accountable. Our nation needs to know now more than ever that every single person is held to the same standard of law and justice. No one should be above the law.
Equality under the law is a foundational principle of our country and one that is vital to defend.
