Representative Bennie Thompson (D-MI) initiated the first of what sounds to be several live, primetime hearings revealing the results of an investigation that interviewed thousands of people and combed through tens of thousands of documents.
The only problem is that the committee was formed out of disgust of former president Donald Trump and was only ever interested in one outcome. There also appears to be little opportunity for defendants as it were, such as President Trump or his beleaguered supporters, to share their story.
Therefore, when Thompson, a sixteen-term representative with little to show after thirty years in the Beltway other than a pompous air, took to the microphone and voiced his grievances in a falsely empathetic tone, his words rung infuriatingly hollow.
Thompson began by noting the history of congressional oaths, those which all members take upon entering office and which swears them to defend the Constitution and the Republic.
“When the United States was stormed and burned in 1814,” Johnson began, “foreign enemies were responsible. After [the Civil War], when American citizens had taken arms against this country, Congress adopted a new oath to make sure no person who had supported the rebellion could hold a position of public trust.”
It was here that Johnson hammered the point home that every person, ranging from instigator to participant, was guilty of treason and insurrection. He concluded this line of speaking with one final reminder of what type of people who allegedly tried stopping the counting of votes:
“But unlike in 1814, it was domestic enemies of the constitution who stormed the constitution and occupied the Capitol.”
He concluded: “January 6th was the culmination of an attempted coup..to overthrow the government. It represents Trumps’ last stand…to halt the transfer of power.”
With those words, Thompson passed the microphone to Liz Cheney (R-WY) in such an obvious and pathetic effort to portray the evening as a bipartisan affair. It’s worth noting that every major media broadcast and Johnson himself introduced the nine-member panel as “bipartisan,” knowing full well the American people are gullible and ignorant enough to think that means something.
Neither Kinzginer nor Cheney will have congressional seats come January 2023, and for good reason, but that won’t stop their last-ditch effort to realize a personal vendetta against Donald Trump and the MAGA movement that threatens neocon establishment Republicans.
The committee’s fraudulence is on full display, as it undermines and exposes the second impeachment of Donald Trump as nothing but political theater. Axios wrote that former ABC producer James Goldston planned “to make it [the live hearings] raw enough so that skeptical journalists will find the material fresh, and chew over the disclosures in future coverage.”
In the same Axios article, bug-eyed lair Adam Schiff is quoted as saying:
“Americans, I think, know a great deal already — they have seen a number of bombshells already, [but] there’s a great deal they haven’t seen…But perhaps the most important is the public has not seen it woven together, how one thing led to another.”
It still defies logic that an impeach was able to proceed mere days after the so-called insurrection. That was and always will be a grotesque, politically-motivated assault on truth and decency. But now, to pretend that more information has come out, in combination with the personal attacks spewed by Representative Bennie Thompson, obviates this hearing as nothing more than a desperate ploy to distract Americans from Brandon’s inflation, crime, spending, and personal corruption.
