Dr. Richard Ebright, a microbiologist from Rutgers University, testified in front of the Senate Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Spending Oversight yesterday that Dr. Fauci, and other officials lied when they denied funding Gain of Function (GoF) research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) in China.
Specifically, Ebright claimed “…that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other U.S. federal agencies funded research that fit the definition of GoF at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) without proper oversight,” according to this report.
Of course, this contradicts statements from public health officials, especially those from Dr. Anthony “Mini-Mengele” Fauci, who infamously mixed it up with Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky) on more than one senate-hearing occasion. Fauci repeatedly denied that GoF was taking place at the Wuhan lab or that the National Institutes of Health (NIH), or the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), had anything to with the funding, often times under oath.
Remember this Gem from last November’s Senate hearing?

Sen. Paul stated that Gain of Function “has the “potential to unleash a global pandemic that threatens the lives of millions” yet no hearings on it had been held by Congress.

Ebright “testified that research funded by federal agencies at the WIV in the 2010s violated an NIH pause on GoF research funding between 2014 and 2017. After the pause was lifted in 2017…that GoF projects which continued did not properly go through the agency’s regulatory process for oversight.”
Following the strict definitions of GoF would classify the experiments at the WIV funded by the NIH, and other federal agencies, should have fallen under GoF oversight. The experiments took place in the 2010s under Obama’s presidency and made “bat-based coronaviruses more dangerous by increasing their fatality and infectiousness.”
Ebright explained further:
“Gain-of-function research of concern involves the creation of new health threats–health threats that did not exist previously and that might not have come to exist by natural means for tens, hundreds, thousands, or tens of thousands of years.”
“The statements made on repeated occasions to the public, to the press and to policymakers by the NIAID director, Dr. Fauci, have been untruthful. I do not understand why those statements are being made because they are demonstrably false.”
Yesterday’s hearing was the first held specifically to investigate GoF and was initiated by Sen. Paul. The WIV in China, however, has consistently been under suspicion for the release of the China Virus, also known as “Covid-19”, either by accident or intentional.
Sen. Paul made the following significant statements in an interview with FOX’s Jesse Watters after the hearing:
“We learned that Dr. Fauci has been lying to us. The three scientists agreed that this was dangerous research. Two of the three absolutely said it was gain-of-function. The third said it was dangerous research and should have gone before a committee…. There was a committee that was formed after 2017 to look at this dangerous research. They didn’t look at this research at all because they never reviewed it. So no one reviewed this to say it wasn’t gain-of-function research”
“We also learned from the scientists today that the committee that is supposed to review these viruses is secret. We don’t know the names. We don’t know that they ever meet, and we don’t have any records of their meetings. It’s top-secret. Congress is not allowed to know. So whether the committee actually exists, we’re uncertain. We do know that they’ve met three times and there are thousands of gain-of-function research proposals. They’ve only met three times, they’ve only reviewed three projects. So we learned a lot of things, but I think we reconfirmed that Dr. Fauci is not being honest with us. Yes, the NIH funded gain-of-function research. Yes, it was dangerous. And yes, nobody looked over this. Nobody reviewed the research. Yes, a million people died. And there still seems to be a significant lack of curiosity on the part of Democrats.
