Florida Governor Introduces Tough New Law To Protect Police, Punish Rioters

The governor of a critical battleground state has shown what true leadership is with new legislation to crack down on Democrat-sanctioned rioters and to protect police officers.

In a strong statement that Florida is not going to tolerate the sort of organized mayhem from criminal rioters that have plagued other areas, a series of tough new measures have been introduced by Governor Ron DeSantis.

Speaking at the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, DeSantis made it clear that Florida is not New York, Portland, or Seattle and that those engaging in the unlawful "peaceful" protests that have terrorized helpless citizens elsewhere can expect to be hit with severe penalties.

The Combatting Violence, Disorder and Looting and Law Enforcement Protection Act calls for stiff penalties against those harassing citizens, destroying property and striking law enforcement officers - including with projectiles.

According to Gov. DeSantis:

“We have to stand unequivocally behind the people you see behind me, who put on the uniform and put themselves at risk to be able to defend our freedoms and defend our society,” DeSantis said. “I can tell you that when there is a victim in need in the state of Florida, regardless of race, color, creed — any characteristic you can think — when there is a victim at risk, these folks are going to respond and they are going to be there and they are going to stand up for the people who may not be able to stand up for themselves.”

The law also says that any municipality that moves to defund police will lose state funding, a body blow to carpetbagging national activists seeking to implement their dangerous and destructive anti-cop agenda nationwide.

Via Tallahassee ABC affiliate WTXL-29, "Gov. DeSantis unveils new bill to crack down on riots, penalize cities for 'defunding police'":

Gov. Ron DeSantis introduced a new bill on Monday that would increase penalties to a third degree felony for those who participate in "disorderly assemblies," block roads and damage monuments.

In Winter Haven, alongside several law enforcement leaders from around the state, the House speaker and the Senate president, DeSantis said that the bill aims to crackdown on riots and "antifa types."

"We have zero tolerance for violence, zero tolerance for disorder and zero tolerance for looting," DeSantis said.

Under the bill, called the Combating Violence, Disorder, and Looting and Law Enforcement Protection Act, it'd be a third degree felony when seven or more people are in "an assembly and cause damage to property or injury."

The same penalty also applies to anyone who is obstructing traffic during unpermited protest. The bill states that any driver who hits a person who is obstructing traffic during a "disorderly assembly" will not be liable for injury or death "if fleeing from the safety of a mob."

Calling it the "boldest and most comprehensive piece of legislation" like this in the country, DeSantis said there will also be enhanced penalties for people who throw objects or assault law enforcement officers during assemblies.

Judging by the hysterical reaction by activist organizations that function as arms of the radicalized Democratic party like the ACLU and SPLC, DeSantis just hit a home run and has established himself as a true leader.

DeSantis was also assailed by his opponent in the 2018 Florida gubernatorial race, the esteemed Andrew Gillum whose campaign was backed by out-of-state interests and whose narrow loss was a major bullet dodged by Floridians.

The flaming race-baiter invoked the big lie of Charlottesville which has fueled Joe Biden's campaign to trash DeSantis and white knight for violent criminals.

Gillum was a rising star and potential future presidential candidate until Miami Beach police responded to a distress call at a local hotel to find him at the site of a drug-fueled gay orgy.

After a few months out of the spotlight, Gillum has recently reemerged to deny that he is gay and only bisexual in what has the look of an image rehabilitation campaign and a possible eye on a 2022 rematch with DeSantis.

Governor DeSantis talked about the new law during an appearance with Fox's Tucker Carlson.

With an explosion of riots being promised by Democrats and their surrogates over any attempt by President Trump to replace deceased Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and to contest a Trump election victory, other states would do well to follow the lead of Florida's governor.
