Former NFL great Hershel Walker blasted Democrats for bringing up the issue of reparations for the descendants of former slaves right before the November elections, correctly noting that they only reason for doing so is because it’s once again time to pander for votes.

WND.com noted:

All the talk by politicians during this election season about slavery reparations amounts to “pandering,” according to NFL football great Herschel Walker.

Walker, who spoke in support of President Trump at the Republican National Convention, has volunteered to send activists who want to defund the police to nations without them.

During the Democratic National Convention, he chastised Democrats for playing the race card.

“You all have been in office for years and have done nothing for African Americans. Every four years you do this for a vote,” he said.

The Heisman Trophy winner also said Democrats need to back off their claims that soon, someday, they’ll deliver on oft-promised reparations for slavery descendants.

In an interview with Fox News host Martha MacCallum, Walker talked about Democratic pandering Gov. Gavin Newsom of California, who recently signed a bill that creates a panel to ‘look into’ providing some form of reparations.

In a statement, Newsom noted: “As a nation, we can only truly thrive when every one of us has the opportunity to thrive. Our painful history of slavery has evolved into structural racism and bias built into and permeating throughout our democratic and economic institutions.”

That’s ridiculous, Walker noted.

“I’m upset about it because all they’re doing is pandering for a vote. Why are you paying African-Americans off instead of empowering African-Americans?” he said.

“They don’t have an answer for what Donald Trump is saying, in trying to empower African-Americans by putting jobs in those areas, by putting better education in those areas, by going out [and] putting small businesses, African-American owned businesses, in those areas,” he added.

“What they are trying to do now is pander for a vote,” he stated, correctly.

He went on to cite the old adage about teaching someone how to fish rather than have them rely on someone to give them a fish each day.

“That’s what’s going to make African-Americans better,” Walker said.

Democrats have been pushing the issue of paying out reparations for decades. They have continually introduced bills in Congress, only to see them die. And when measures are passed, they’re pretty much toothless: They call for studying the issue, not actually doing something like paying out reparations in some form or another.

That’s because if any reparations bill ever actually passed it would no doubt be challenged on constitutional and legal grounds: How can anyone force Americans of today to pay for the sins of our forbearers, especially when the institution of slavery has been outlawed for 160 years?

In any event, none if it makes sense to Walker because there are better ways to get ahead in America — for everyone who applies themselves.

“What about empowering you to run your own businesses? What about empowering you to become a doctor? To become a lawyer? No one thought about that,” he said.
