During an interview with President Donald Trump on Sunday, Fox News host Maria Bartiromo asked if he was going to appoint a special counsel to look at all sorts of things related to the undermining of him and his administration, to include the Russian collusion hoax.

“I would consider a special prosecutor,” the president responded.

Trump didn’t expound on that statement much, likely because he was waiting for his attorney general to make the announcement – and he has.

On Tuesday, Fox News confirmed that William Barr notified Congress that he has appointed U.S. Attorney John Durham as a special counsel and empowered him to continue his investigation into alleged criminal behaviors surrounding the hoax.

“On May 13, 2019, I directed John Durham, U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut, to investigate certain intelligence and law-enforcement activities surrounding the 2016 presidential election,” Barr wrote. “Although I had expected Mr. Durham to complete his work by the summer of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as additional information he uncovered, prevented him from doing so.

“In advance of the presidential election, I decided to appoint Mr. Durham as a Special Counsel to provide him and his team with the assurance that they could complete their work, without regard to the outcome of the election,” Barr wrote, adding that he appointed Durham with “the powers and authority of a Special Counsel” on Oct. 19.

Fox News added this:

In a scope order, obtained by Fox News, Barr stated that Durham as special counsel “is authorized to investigate whether any federal official, employee, or any other person or entity violated the law in connection with the intelligence, counter-intelligence, or law-enforcement activities directed at the 2016 presidential campaigns, individuals associated with those campaigns, and individuals associated with the administration of President Donald J. Trump, including but not limited to Crossfire Hurricane and the investigation of Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller, III.”

Under U.S. code, the special counsel would produce a “confidential report” and is ordered to “submit to the Attorney General a final report, and such interim reports as he deems appropriate in a form that will permit public dissemination.”

Fox News reported last week that Durham was moving “full speed ahead” with his investigation after Election Day.

“Durham remains full steam ahead,” the source familiar with the investigation told Fox News.

Trump’s supporters were hoping that we’d see more people ‘alleged’ to have participated in this scandalous coup attempt perp-walked into a courtroom but all we got was a low-level FBI lawyer, Kevin Clinesmith, and a guilty plea to a single county of fibbing to the FISA court.

And then, since it was getting into the fall and election day was nearing, Durham didn’t “want to appear political” so he shunted his investigation until after the election.

Great. Because we can only see justice done when it doesn’t affect the political processes, not in spite of our political processes.

In any event, if Joe Biden does manage to be led into the White House, then we’re pretty certain Durham’s days as a special prosecutor are going to be over. And if they’re not, any deep state so-and-so he indicts will be pardoned anyway because pardoning people is only a scandal when President Trump grants them
