No American should have to take the treatment heaped upon President Donald Trump and members of his family for the ‘crime’ of running for (and winning) the presidency from people who are abusing their offices and their power.
But because in most respects the system of checks and balances our founders put in place to prevent such abuses of power no longer function, thanks to loyalty to party rather than to country, these officials increasingly get away with abusing their power.
And of course, it happens mostly in deep blue, Democrat-controlled enclaves like New York.
Presidential daughter Ivanka Trump took to Twitter Friday to express her righteous anger and disgust in response to a Thursday New York Times story reporting that two tax fraud investigations have been launched by authoritarians in New York State.
“This is harassment pure and simple. This ‘inquiry’ by NYC democrats is 100% motivated by politics, publicity and rage. They know very well that there’s nothing here and that there was no tax benefit whatsoever. These politicians are simply ruthless,” Ivanka Trump wrote.
Of course, she’s right.
The Times reported:
Two separate New York State fraud investigations into President Trump and his businesses, one criminal and one civil, have expanded to include tax write-offs on millions of dollars in consulting fees, some of which appear to have gone to Ivanka Trump, according to people with knowledge of the matter.
The inquiries — a criminal investigation by the Manhattan district attorney, Cyrus R. Vance Jr., and a civil one by the state attorney general, Letitia James — are being conducted independently. But both offices issued subpoenas to the Trump Organization in recent weeks for records related to the fees, the people said.
The subpoenas were the latest steps in the two investigations of the Trump Organization, and underscore the legal challenges awaiting the president when he leaves office in January. There is no indication that his daughter is a focus of either inquiry, which the Trump Organization has derided as politically motivated.
As in most prior Times reporting that focuses on the Trumps, there is a lot of innuendo but very little in terms of substance. It’s interesting that, after being in New York his entire adult life and showering the city with billions in assets, Donald Trump and his children are being treated worse than Mafia figures.
What really ought to offend every American, and especially New Yorkers, of any or no political persuasion is the blatant abuse of office by Democratic politicians – and that’s what these ‘prosecutors’ are – to exact political revenge on a fellow citizen.
Because let’s face it: If they can abuse their offices to go after a current (and someday former) president of the United States, they can literally do whatever they want when it comes to “the little people” they’re supposed to be serving.
But of course, in this day and age of political tribalism, there won’t be any remorse shown the Trumps from the unhinged left. Every abuse of power directed that them will be perceived as “well-deserved,” and literally none of them will ever consider the consequences of cheering on and enabling unchecked power.
Until, of course, that power is directed at them. Then it’ll be too late.
