It was predictable, of course, and the anarchy-loving Marxists running Minneapolis knew it: Demonizing the entire police department in the wake of the legitimately unfortunate death of George Floyd at the hands of a few bad officers has turned the once-bustling city into a den of criminal behavior.
Yes, Minneapolis is rapidly becoming [name your city in Syria or Somalia] because local law enforcement has been so neutered there may as well not even be a department.
Criminal activity once limited and confined to the wee hours of the morning is now “brazen” and open: Daylight burglaries and car theft is rampant. Other personal and property crimes are rising as well as violence.

Minneapolis is becoming ground zero for the collapse of several major American cities caught in the throes of Left-wing lunacy, compliments of the current iteration of the Democrat Party.
Brazen robberies and car thefts, often in broad daylight, highlight a growing problem across the city.
According to Minneapolis Police Department crime data, there have been 2,170 stolen vehicles this year through July 26. That’s a 46% increase over the same time period in 2019 — when 1,485 auto thefts happened.
There have been 886 robberies, a jump of 36% over the same time last year.
Steve Taylor, a south Minneapolis resident who moderates a webpage called Uptown Crime page, made the understatement of the year in response to the rising tide of crime.
“What we’re hearing again and again is people don’t want less public safety, they want better public safety,” he said. “When (City) Council has their own armed security and community members are being robbed at gunpoint often in broad daylight, that just seems unfair.”
‘Unfair?’ You think, Steve?
What’s ‘unfair’ is that those same Marxist schmucks who have their own security recently voted to ‘defund’ the entire police department, thereby sending a signal to the same citizens who elected them they are on their own.
And those citizens are stepping up to fill the void and beat back the anarchy.
The Wall Street Journal reports that neighbors and neighborhoods are arming up and protecting themselves because no one else is going to do it after a huge portion of the city was destroyed by looting and riots following the Floyd incident:
Minneapolis residents in some areas still recovering from rioting and unrest are forming community watch and security groups, some bearing firearms, to fight a surge of crime in the wake of the George Floyd killing in May. At least one neighborhood has put up barricades to keep away outsiders. …
As riots played out across the city in late May and early June, a group of Black gun owners responded to a call from the local NAACP and patrolled the mostly African-American West Broadway business district for 10 nights, keeping the area free of looting or arson without firing a shot, said Jamil Jackson, a leader of the group called the Minnesota Freedom Fighters, which advocates for Black gun ownership.

And of course, none of this story of epic failure would be complete without a healthy dose of hypocrisy:
Council member Linea Palmisano said armed neighborhood patrols, or even efforts to just keep unfamiliar people out of a neighborhood, opens a Pandora’s box.
“We are lurching for solutions,” she said, noting she doesn’t support the idea of doing away with the police department but supports the idea of letting residents vote on it.
With the neighborhood patrols, “you could very easily create the same things we rally against,” she said.
Then fund your police department, lady. You can do that and still weed out problematic officers, few though they may be.
