Mitch McConnell Has One More Gift He Plans To Give Trump By End Of Year

The Republican-controlled U.S. Senate has confirmed almost 160 of President Donald Trump's judicial nominees, and there's no plans at all to slow down.

The president vowed to remake the federal bench with a conservative bent, and he has already honored that promise at a historic pace.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell revealed this week that he plans to give Trump one more gift by the end of the year: around 30 more conservative judges.

While Democrats obsess over impeachment, McConnell and Trump are packing the courts for a generation.

McConnell said he's planning to confirm at least 30 more conservative judicial nominees before year’s end.

“The Senate will continue its work in the personnel business and confirm more of the president’s outstanding nominees to the federal judiciary,” McConnell said on the Senate floor this week.

“Since our Democratic colleagues chose last week to filibuster defense funding and block the Senate from even considering legislation to fund our armed forces, we’ll turn our focus to confirmations while we wait for progress from them on appropriations,” he added.

“Nobody’s done more to change the court system in the history of our country than Donald Trump,” McConnell said at a rally in Kentucky with the president last week. “And Mr. President, we’re going to keep on doing it. My motto is ‘Leave no vacancy behind.’”

Analysis shows that Trump is on pace to appoint 30 percent of all federal judges currently on the bench by the end of his first term.

And if Trump wins re-election in 2020 and serves another four years -- it's more than likely that he will have appointed more than 50 percent of all federal judges when he leaves office in 2024.

Trump’s judicial appointments also include two Supreme Court justices, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.

VOTE NOW: Is Trump Worthy Of A Second Term?

That's certainly a historic accomplishment, and the Republican-controlled Senate is reshaping the federal courts across the country for decades to come.
