Obama Allies Devising ‘Weapon’ They Say Will Combat Trump’s Biggest 2020 Advantage

Two Obama operatives are launching a massive digital advertisement buy ahead of the 2020 election to combat what they claim is President Donald Trump's "biggest 2020 advantage."

While speaking with the New York Times, the two former Obama-era officials spoke about a nonprofit group called Acronym and a left-leaning political action committee jumping into the 2020 race.

The officials unveiled plans to spend $75 million on digital advertising to rebut what they said is Trump’s nearly insurmountable edge in battleground states.

In short: Democrats are terrified of Trump's financial war chest and advantage in digital advertising because it allows the president's campaign to target just about every single voter in the country.

“If the things that need to happen don’t happen in these battleground states between now and May or June, our nominee will never have time to catch up,” said David Plouffe, who managed former President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign and was a key adviser to him in 2012.

Plouffe, a member of the Acronym board, warned that Trump is way ahead of the game.

“There is an enormous amount of danger between now and then,” he said, noting that Obama had a similar advantage over Sen. Mitt Romney in 2012. “If the hole is too steep to dig out of, they’re not going to win.”

The president’s campaign has already dumped over $26 million into Facebook and Google, a number dwarfing that of former Vice President Joe Biden, as well as Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders and South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, all of whom are running for president in 2020.

Tara McGowan, the founder and chief executive of Acronym who was also a digital producer for Obama for America in 2011, said alongside Plouffe in an interview that their campaign will focus on crafting a negative public perception of Trump before the primary election concludes.

Acronym’s campaign will focus on five big states: Michigan, Arizona, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

This comes after a new poll found that Democrats are very worried about their chances of defeating Trump in 2020.

According to a survey from the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, Democratic voters are "anxious" and "frustrated" for the upcoming election.

The poll found that a whopping 67 percent of Democrats say they feel anxious and 64 percent report they are frustrated about the presidential election.

It also found that 45 percent of Republicans say they are anxious and 49 percent are frustrated with the election.

Two-thirds of those surveyed said the election has spiked their interest, including 74 percent of Republicans and 82 percent of Democrats.

The AP survey also found that 88 percent of liberal-leaning Democrats are more anxious compared with moderate Democrats and conservatives at 79 percent.

Both levels of anxiety and frustration have increased since June, according to the AP, but the levels are much higher among Democrats, who are clearly starting to panic about their chances of defeating Trump in 2020.

This is the second poll in less than a week that has been horrific for Democrats.

VOTE NOW: Do you OPPOSE or SUPPORT impeachment?

Pollsters from Suffolk University for USA Today found that a combined 64 percent of the voters do not want Trump impeached, want the Democrats to drop their latest witch hunt, and 5 percent have no opinion about it at all.

That's not good at all for Democrats, who are desperately vying for public support with their impeachment inquiry so that it does not blow up in their faces politically in the upcoming election.
