Social media users had a LOT to say about this one as Malia Obama, the eldest daughter of the ex-President of the U.S. Barack Obama, was spotted at Chick-fil-A. The LA restaurant is led by a conservative who has vocally criticized same-sex marriage and has donated millions to anti-gay organizations in the past. While her father is a passionate activist for LGTBQ+ rights, the restaurant owner has spoken against it in the past on numerous occasions.
Chick-fil-A started working in 1946 and was founded by a member of the Southern Baptist Church, S. Truett Cathy. Dan T. Cathy, the owner’s son, took the business over around nine years ago, and his father passed away approximately one year before that.
Dan has voiced many negative opinions regarding same-sex marriages. The restaurant chain had given millions of dollars to a number of anti-LQTBQ organizations via the WinShape Foundation.
Dan spoke against the people who ‘have the audacity to define what marriage is about,’ calling them ‘arrogant’ during a scandalous interview. ‘I think we are inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, “We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage,”‘ he stated. ‘I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about,’ said report.
According to some reports, Chick-fil-A has donated more than $5 million to hate groups that believe gay people need therapy to become straight. Dan later revealed he supports “traditional family” only and that Chick-fil-A is “an organization operating on biblical principles.”
‘We are very much supportive of the family – the biblical definition of the family unit,’ he said. ‘We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles.’
Customers stopped going to the fast-food restaurant as a result of the owner’s comments and donations. Back in 2012, the business reported that it had ‘ceased donating to organizations that promote discrimination, specifically against LGBT civil rights.’
President Obama spent a significant amount of his eight years in office working to promote equal rights. In February 2011, he declared that the Department of Justice will no longer defend the Defense of Marriage Act’s clause that limited marriage to just a man and woman.
Malia was seen placing an order. She was driving, and her younger sister’s boyfriend, Clifton Powell Jr., was sitting in the passenger seat. Malia appeared to drive the young man to the airport before going to SoulCycle to meet a friend for a workout session.
Sasha is currently living in Los Angeles, pursuing her career, as Malia works as a screenwriter. Sasha, 21, has recently transferred to the University of Southern California. Her relationship with Clifton Jr., the son of actor Clifton Powell, was made public a few months ago.
