Now that the date has been set for the unprecedented second impeachment of former President Donald J. Trump, the only question remaining is whether enough Republicans join Democrats in convicting him on bogus charges.

There will need to be 17 Republicans willing to pull the trigger in order to prevent Trump from ever running for president again. And while it has been reported that there are few outside of the klatch of die-hard Never Trumpers who would convict, one key GOP senator wants him gone.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is reportedly siding with the lynch mob although the powerful Kentuckian hasn’t come out publicly in favor of conviction.

McConnell has referred to the sham process of trying a president who has already left office as a “vote of conscience,” potentially leaving the door open for enough senators to join with Democrats in what would be the preemptive rigging of the 2024 election.

According to a bombshell report by CNN, an unnamed Republican member of Congress is quoted as saying “Mitch said to me he wants Trump gone,” and there is intense lobbying ongoing to further nudge him in the direction of a conviction.

Via The Daily Caller, “REPORT: McConnell Has Been Privately Asked By Prominent Republicans, Former White House Officials To Convict Trump”:

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has reportedly been lobbied by prominent Republicans and former White House officials to support impeaching former President Donald Trump, according to CNN.

“Mitch said to me he wants Trump gone,” a Republican member of Congress reportedly told CNN. “It is in his political interest to have him gone. It is in the GOP interest to have him gone. The question is, do we get there?” The CNN report said the lobbying for impeachment started in the House after the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol and began to focus on McConnell after the House’s impeachment vote.

Those lobbying of McConnell to drive a stake through the heart of a second presidential bid by Trump – possibly with a new political party – include GOP Beltway big shots and former White House officials, many of who were able to undermine Trump’s America First agenda during his historic presidency.

According to CNN:

As the House prepares to send articles of impeachment to the Senate on Monday, CNN has learned that dozens of influential Republicans around Washington — including former top Trump administration officials — have been quietly lobbying GOP members of Congress to impeach and convict Donald Trump. The effort is not coordinated but reflects a wider battle inside the GOP between those loyal to Trump and those who want to sever ties and ensure he can never run for President again.

The lobbying started in the House after the January 6 attack on the Capitol and in the days leading up to impeachment. But it’s now more focused on Sen. Mitch McConnell, the powerful minority leader who has signaled he may support convicting Trump.

McConnell is skating on thin ice with the likelihood that a bipartisan public lynching of a beloved former president could boomerang on the Republican party by alienating a good portion of the 74 million Americans who voted for Trump.

There is also the fact that under McConnell’s leadership, the GOP-controlled Senate consistently failed to protect a president from its own party from four years of vicious partisan attacks and an ongoing Deep State coup, they then cut and ran on him even when there was sufficient evidence of election fraud to contest the results.

McConnell’s decision could very well be one that establishes decades of one-party Democrat rule that would take a wrecking ball to whatever is left of America.
